Just curious as to who in dakka plays sports in their free time. I'm talking the main branch of sports (football, basketball, soccer, hockey, baseball etc.)

Only thing I love more than a game of 40k is an even better game of soccer Been playing for 12 years!

I lift weights and compete in about 3 shooting competitions a month. if the wife hadn't decided lines were merely guidelines for her van when parking I'd have the money for a quality shotgun, and that would be 4 shooting competitions a month.

I've played hockey since I was four or five. People generally don't believe me though, I really don't look like much of a hockey player.

My team also won the state tournament this year.

LSU?

Also played Baseball and basketball until I was 10 or 11, and then dropped out due to lack of skill (basketball), and injury (I goofing around and took a bat to the skull). I would have liked to played football, but that was a no go by my parents... I'd like to learn to play hockey, but equipment is too much :(

I play tennis and vollyball on occasion (when I can get my friends to go with me).

Other than that, I used to play airsoft 2-3 times a month, but due to changes in the local players and the local field gradually going downhill, I barely play anymore. I'll rather spend my money on shotgun shells, clay birds, and a 12 pack of beer.

And if you're drinkin' well, you know that you're my friend and I say "I think I'll have myself a beer"

Not if the only SEC schools I know are LSU, Ole Miss, Alabama, Auburn, Florida and Georgia.... Out of those schools, I only know of 1 of them having a "tiger" as their mascot (assuming you pulled your username from your alma mater), which is why I said LSU... surprisingly there are several "tigers" in the SEC... Ya think ya'll would have come up with more varied names than the Tigers, Fighting Tigers, and the... Tigers. So that means you either went to Auburn or University of Missouri.

I used to play gaelic football, soccer and rugby. Now I exercise with a Jillian Michaels DVD in the morning before work, or after work depending on the shift.

Although I would like to get into target shooting, even just as a casual thing. I've only been to a range once but I had a blast

That would be me! (I actually still have the little painted Mark of Khorne + Blood for the Blood God on the back of my helmet)

Although high sticking was never my preferred penalty of choice, but rather I was renown for my slue-footing abilitiy, can-openers & body-checks. (which are sadly illegal in all levels of girls hockey)
At 5'1" though, hip checks tended to work a lot better for me and meant my scrawny little 100lbs @$$ wouldn't just bounce back three feet off of whoever I'd tried to hit!

Congrats Coolyo on winning the state tournament!

The final year I played competitive my team won the Senior BB Gold at the Provincials...
Our team scored 13 goals over the 5 tourney games, which included three 1-0 victories. Of those, I had 1 goal (in our 1-0 championship win) and 7 assists. Finished the tourney at a +8 rating!

Then I got cut from the team the following year for some reason.

I used to mock people for it too.... until my wife suggested we try it. I do like the mix of strength, cardio and abs.
It is intense, but after a week I did see and feel a difference. It's nice to finish a set and feel energised for the day, and not feel the need to lie down somewhere

I used to play organized soccer (I wish America called it football) in high school, disorganized basketball every day with friends at lunch or in a driveway after school, still go skiing when I have time, and I've been trying to get back into archery and weight lifting recently. I'd also like to pick racquetball back up, and maybe tennis as well. I also wish laser tag was a sport, as 4 hrs of a crouched fast walk will make your legs feel like they're on fire the next day. If you stand the whole time, it's not exercise. A crouched run definitely counts! Man, that hurts. Can't wait to do it again.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Cycling, racquet ball, and beach volleyball. I played rugby in high school, but gave it up once I realized that, while I loved the game, I lacked the inherent talent for violence necessary to be really good at it.

I'm a Texan. You'll have to explain what all those checks mean. Sounds like you played good although I don't understand it much.

Used to play rugby as a kid but messed up my knee 2 weeks into the season I made the first team. Since then I have had recurrent knee issues and been stopped from all contact sport. I can barely run 50m without being in pain. Still like to play the odd game of golf or if I am feeling really risky tennis-non competitive. Even kicking a ball causes pain.

Though I do wish I had known about ice hockey and learnt to skate before my knee issues. Looks like I would have loved it.

Bruins fan till the end.

Never assume anything, it will only make an ass of you and me.

Would darts be considered a sport, though? It seems like it's more of a skill.

yes but if you weren't fat and out of shape you wouldn't be a good curler. In that sort of tradeoff, beer must be considered!
