I'm curious what the Dakka Dakka universe thinks are the most fun MEQ units to field. What units do you really enjoy playing with? I only have experience in vanilla marines and some proxied DA and BA but that's it. I love my snipers and drop pod sternguard. My ultimate favorite unit though so far is my AC/CML contemptor dready. Dreads are the extent of my armor experience and I now have 7 tanks and 5 speeders that have yet to played so my experience is obviously limited. I know some people take the game very seriously and only build WAAC armies and get mad when they lose. The game is supposed to be fun and a great hobby as well. I'm really enjoying the hobby aspect as well. And in saying that...not really pertaining to MEQ units, the hobby as a whole, what are your favorite units to build and paint? Just curious if anyone out there shares my same views on this great game and hobby.
This got posted in the tactics section so my appologies for posting this twice.

Sternguard are a really fun unit, and if they live long enough, it's cool to use their different kinds of ammo against different targets where appropriate.

Most fun to built? Definitely Chaos anything.
Most fun to play? Sisters.

It all depends what *you* think is fun, really.
I play Grey Knights, and although it is a very versatile army with some serious power which can be fun.
(A troop choice of terminators. 3 left. They make a disorganised charge against 2x10 tau firewarriors... and procede to crush them. It's fun having a unit of 3 troop choice that can crush 20 models... once they get into combat)
But the thing about GK is unless you play a Coteaz army, every single model that falls, I feel like I did something wrong.
They're all valuable and each one has a job to do. Every time one dies my plan is shattered, and I have to reevaluate the battlefield.
I started playing Sisters instead, and I love it. Now when I lose a unit, that was a part of my strategy, drawing that fire. I just saw 15 sisters fall, and feel the Emperor smiling behind me.
To me, playing an army that can shake off losses and field a lot is a lot more fun, because I don't have that nagging feeling that I'm failing even when I'm winning.

To be fair, all you need to kill 20 Firewarriors in CC is a guardsman with a pointy stick.

I've been wanting to paint up some chaos. Not sure what I would do with em when I'm finished but still. And why are sisters fun to play? I don't know anything about em and never looked at the codex. Automatically Appended Next Post: I'm about to purchase some SW units and field a full wolf based ally for my GK force. Gonna scoop up Canis Wolfborn, some fenrisians, cyberwolves, and thunderwolves. I love the way they look and can't wait to field em. A full wolf based hand to hand FA ally?!?! Yeah I know its way overpriced and probably the worst tactically sound ally to add to GK's but I think it'll be sweet looking and tons of fun to paint and then play.

If your cool with FW i´d recommend a Contemptor Dreadnaught. They are one of the most appealiing models to me.

And I once had a shas`ui solo a Callidus Assassin. That doesn't mean it's an expected outcome...
Also 1 guardsman with a stick is a bit much, it would take at least 5 guardsmen to bring down 20 fire warriors

One kriegsman with a pointy stick, perhaps.
For me, the basic Marine units aren't terrible exciting, but kit-bashing some Honour Guard together can be a lot of fun. The Grey Knight kits are great for making elite, special looking units; they're very customizable, lots of detail, lots of weapons, and everything is compatible with the regular marine line. When you mix in FW and such, you can make a really unique Marine army, cater to whatever "feel" you're going for. Veterans, well equipped, at the peak of their power? Throw in some Mk.IV bits, Grey Knight bits, and odds and ends from different elite marine kits. Busted up old chapter having a rather rough few decades? Mk. V armour looks good for that, mix in some space wolf bits or de-spiked Chaos bits, regular marine kit, and carve some damage into the armour.
Your enjoyment of the marine line is entirely up to how much time and effort you want to put into it, limited only by your imagination. There's also lots of secondary producers who make bits for Marines; the end result feels less "canonical," lots of gear and aesthetics which simply don't exist in 40k, but used in moderation, can make your particular marines stand out that much more.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

I'm a big fan of the Pedro-Drop Pod list, they are deadly and fun.
When going with Pods, go big. I always drop at least 3 pods in turn one, sometimes 4 (so 7 pods in army).
Its a ton of fun and can be fairly overwhelming for the opponent, and if deployed correctly can focus fire on one half of the army for utter devastation.
My favorite drop is 2x 10man stern squads (all with combi weps), and a Contemptor with Kheres and CML
I also love the TFC, very effective in 6th, and often throw out one or two predators (autocannon turrent / lascannon sponsons) or vindicators for armor.
Just have fun with them

I had great fun putting together a command squad for my Relictors, mixing bits from a combat squad with Chaosy backpacks and bits from Fabius Bile. Oh, and plasma. Lots of plasma.
Assuming they don't Gets Hot! themselves to death, they make a nasty rapid fire surprise.
Counts as bikers with Chaos knight horses were fun to put together, too.
