Subject: Anyone surprised by the 6th ed unit cost (points) trend?

My armies have gotten 4 new codexes (necrons, CSM, Tau, and DA) and I've noticed a trend which surprises me. My most of my units have gotten more expensive model-wise which surprises me, honestly. Now before you think I'm whining about the point increase of some of my favorite models let me assure you that I am not, they deserved the point increase. Why I'm surprised is I thought that GW would have re-baselined the game so that most units cost less points and you would be able to field more models in the standard size games (1500, 1850, and 2000 points). Instead several armies got more expensive points-wise. Tau got cheaper but that was to help balance them and make them more competitive. I don't play eldar but my friend says they got a bit more expensive as well. With GW's desire to make money I figured that they would have reduced the cost of most units so you can field another termie squad or two in an army. Thus GW makes more money because I need to buy more models. If the point decreases were across the board and were done right then the game would be balanced but you would have room to field a few more units. That's just something I've been thinking about after all of these codex drops recently.

Really? Examples would be good, since in my experience the new codices have drastically dropped prices on troops choices, and only slightly increased prices, or dropped prices elsewhere.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

My guess, is to push you to new units. If you have to reduce somethings unit size because of points and make it less impactful, you might look to replace them with XXX unit that you don't own and need to buy.
I can say, with the units I field the most, I have more than enough of them. If the points cost drop, I wouldn't have to buy more of them.
If they increase them, and that because a less effective tool, I will buy new models to replace them to get back to my minimum performance levels.

I think you are looking at it a bit too simplistically.
Sure, GW makes financial considerations as they evolve the game. Allies, Flyers, etc... .
But I don't think they have an accountant sitting behind every game designer as they're trying to figure out whether or not they should cost Eldar Guardians at 8 pts or 9 pts.
Infact, many recent new releases - model wise - have been rather underwhelming for game play. Mutilators, Warp Talons, Dark Angels and Tau Flyers, etc.. .

Maybe it just me. Just thought GW would have cut the point cost of models to make everyone buy more models to keep filding 2000 point armies.

I disagree with the DA codex point increase for sure. Of course some things are a little more expensive but as far as troops go, I've found them to be really cheap compared to the vanilla marine codex. So much so in fact that I built a list out of the DA codex with my vanilla marines that allows me to field way more stuff that I normally could. Sorry to the die hard DA players that frown upon that, but hey...gotta do what I gotta do until they update C:SM.
