I was looking at the exarch powers that I could give the Avatar (Eldar, BTW), and I saw Night Vision.

Does this ever have any effect ever? I mean, his gun's range is 12", so he is already unaffected by night fighting. What use could it possibly serve?

Also, if it is 100% useless, why would GW bother putting this option in for the Avatar?

Manning an icarus lascannon along with fast shot.

Not that it is necessarily worth it but it is a use.

For completeness, and as mentioned could be worth it if he steals a gun emplacement somewhere. It's not like he's the only unit ever published with options players feel are totally useless.

Isn't there a Dark Angels flyer that only rolls 1D6 for scatter but has no blast weapons?

What is unclear about what I said. I personally would not want to do it. Yet the nightfighting does have a use. 2 S9 AP2 BS10 shots per turn. Is it worth 210 points and giving up your ability to GtG behind that aegis...for me, no. For some people, perhaps.
