I don't actually have to deal with this in my playgroup, but I'm just curious...how would various armies (or you, as a player) deal with a guard army with maximum scoring units. Using infantry platoons, they can easily field over 20 scoring units including full upgrades.

Obviously, some blasts could be particularly effective. Multi-assaulting units is an option...although they can probably avoid that with proper spacing and movement (and it's not really an option for Tau). Other than that, I think a majority of armies would have a hard time killing 20-30 separate units. How would you do it?

Focus on the Objectives. He may have 25+ scoring units, but they are very easy to kill, and they will not all by objectives.

Scoring doesn't mean anything if a unit is not within 3 inches of an objective, and Individual Guardsmen units have horrible fire power, since orders are so much more effective when squads are consolidated.

So use target priority, focus on clearing off the units on objectives, and move your own units onto them. What is that squad of 10 guardsmen going to do? Assault you off of the objective?

With my Demons? Flickering Fire (Fateweaver is going to kill every squad he looks at) and multi assault with the puppies

With my Guard/Wolves? Artillery Carriages (or if no FW, Manticores).

Either way, that kind of build won't have the firepower to push me off my objectives, so I only have to focus on his squads that are actually around one or two objectives.

You don't actually have to kill all of them. Hold your own objectives, claim secondaries, and concentrate on killing the enemy units close enough to objective markers to matter.

Take a mech list, take your half of the objectives, and start killing. With 25+ scoring units your opponent has pretty much nothing but small squads with lasguns, so they aren't going to be killing any of your stuff and the game becomes nothing more than a test of how many GEQs your list can kill each turn. Good luck with the dice.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

shoot one squad until it runs, then move on to the next one. When they regroup, kill the remaining squads, then pummel the unit that fled before. Just hit them with enough templates and pie plates and hit them until they run.

Well, it really depends on your army, doesn't it?

GK or DA for example can just walk up to the objectives with terminator troops, and good luck removing them from it with guardsmen.
Then they just focus fire on whoever actually DO pose a threat.

Tau will just focus on mowing them down with shots. they may be alot, but every tau unit (even the anti-tank ones) can reliably remove such a squad each turn, some markers will be spend to remove cover (or aim some SMS on cover)

IG horde, Orks and Nids will counter-swarm them, it will be helarius to see two such armies clash.

IG artillery would just pieplate the table to oblivion.

Etc, etc.
Different armies, different tactics.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

Really? Sounds broken... (que opponent saying "well, this one is Bob, and this one is Spartacus, and this one over here is Jillie, gender equality and all that.)

If he really makes up 250+ individual names for his guardsmen on the spot, I think I might just let him only lose one.)

It's all models of the same name in his combat, so it's not too bad. And I think they're allowed saves against the wounds, although I could be wrong.
