I'm building up a necron army. I'm farely new to the game and I'm starting out using them as allies with my GK army. I was mainly interested in how the scarabs work. I don't quite understand how they multiply. I plan on getting some deathmarks and warriors for some cheap firepower. I have just about everything for GK other than Coteaz. Any advice on what units to add to a 2000 point list and how the scarabs work?

From what I've read, I'm pretty sure I will eventually put together a full army of necrons because they're pretty nasty.

First off, this is the incorrect forum for this query. I've notified a mod, and since you're fairly new, they should move the thread rather than locking it. In the future, most of the subforums have a sticky at the top that tells you what threads are allowed there. This forum is for rules disputes only.

Secondly, scarabs work like normal swarms work. Beasts, ignore difficult terrain, no ranged weapons, not really great in assault, but really hard to kill. In addition, they have the entropic strike rule, which means that they can really mess up the day of monstrous creatures or heavy vehicles, since they can strip their armor away.

Usually, I see scarabs used as a tar pit unit. They charge into my elite units, keeping them from doing anything but squashing bugs, usually for the majority of the game. If a swarm of them gets ahold of my Land Raider, then it's usually gone within a single assault.

The only way for them to multiply is in the presence of a Canoptek Spider. The Spider can generate new bases to be added to the swarm, at the risk of harming himself.

Hope this helps!

One unit you will definitely need are wraiths, after I could get mine up and running in a game they are a standard and a great unit to use and have fun with.

Scarabs are quite nice especially when you have that spyder near by to build more, provided you dont wound yourself by rolling a few 1's.

deathmarks are good with the cryptek of despair, as I'm sure others will tell you, dropping them all over the battle field and providing them with a nice flame support attack.

If you want another tar-pit unit get a ghost ark and have a squad of warriors in and out of it, protecting it from AT, and you have a squad of warriors that can in essence never die, throw in a lord with res orb and the standard upgrades to keep him alive and absorb fire meaning you wont lose as many warriors.

Scarabs are "spawned" from the spyders. The more spyders you have out the gate the faster you can get out more bases. They have to be placed next to a base that was not placed that turn and have a limited range.

Your scarabs should be in CC with something by T2 which means you get one round to spawn then your scarabs should be gone chasing something down. Since your running allies, running 9 spyders isn't likely something you will be doing.
