So an even 250 points will net you 20 PB with a FnP Herald.

Beyond camping an ADL and using the Herald's BS5, what other uses can you think of?

Do you need 20?

Need? No, but I think the Herald is not worth it in smaller squads compared to more bodies.

Or you could do the same thing with Horrors and a Herald and put out the hurt. Plus, if you're camping an Aegis, the Horrors are actually more durable...

Interesting.
I'd have to run a 2+ reroll vs 2+, FnP and T4. Might br close.

My chaos list uses typhus with a unit of nearly 30 zombies as well as a unit of 20 plague bearers with a herald and Ive had lots of success.

In objective missions I use a unit of plague drones to drop the plague bearers onto a forward objective while typhus and the zombies footslog across the board to take another. Shooting them out of terrain is difficult, and facing either one of those units in cc is a tough match for most things they will run across.

My backfield is held with 5 man plagues marine squads while nurgle marked obliterators handle the heavy support and dual helldrakes burn the opponents out of cover.

I ran 18 with a FnP herald at a 750 tourney at my FLGS and won the whole thing. The rest of my list was a kitted out LoC, Drones and 10 horrors. Great fun. Due to smaller board sizes, their slowness didnt hinder them. They died during any of the matches either, soaking up so much damage. hey also won every fight of theirs, but were normally helped. Their best when combined with a LoC/tzeentch caster for prescience which means they get rerolls to hit and then poisons to wound, great and fun stuff. They will also bog down anyone or cancel out people who rely on charging with defensive grenades. The herald is great as well, give him an aetherblade and watch his good stats help him eat through opponents.

Even if horrors come out sltighly better at surviving shooting, PB's have a big advantage over them in close combat. A blob of 20 horrors is pretty much going to collapse if anything gets into CC with it; whilst plaguebearers are hardly heavy hitters in close combat, they can be surprisingly durable and hold their own against quite a few CC threats,. I find the poison 2+ banner is worth taking along with a champion to soak up challenges and the ap2 sword on the herald to deal damage.

However, these days I'm more inclined to take 3 units of 10 PB's with no upgrades rather than the blob with herald. More or less same price points wise and I'm finding them more effective.

It's also worth noting that PBs glance vehicles on sixes regardless of their AV, so they can pull a necron and strip HPs from a vehicle until it's nothing but dust.

I like the idea of deepstriking them into enemy territory but I'm worried the inability to run will hinder them reaching the target.

Yeah, the S&P is problem with DSing them, especially if the opponent has any blast or template weapons, and it doesn't take much scatter to make it a big problem getting them to where you need them.

Took 10 plagues in addition to 20 horrors at last weekends tourny, most of the time the horrors were shot first as they presented the biggest danger to opponents. In the game against Tau 6 out of 10 died but they were not fired upon until turn 5. They were wiped out by 2 storm ravens firing at them then the last 4 being flamered.

The best success I had with them was against a Lord of Change, they acutally beat him in combat twice thanks to them charging in and posioned attacks, getting snake eyes in the assault phase I lost was a bonus as well.

Overall I like them as a 90pt objective camping unit but wouldnt want to sink any real points into them to be honest.

2+ re-roll is almost always going to be better.

Definitely better against S8 or Higher as no FNP allowed.
Definitely Better against S6 or Higher as T is Irrelevent.

So we need to Look at S3-5 weapons for it to matter.

So IG shooting at Each unit with Lasguns
144 Shots to kill 1 Horror
108 Shots to Kill 1 Plague Bearer

Marines with bolters
81 Shots to kill 1 Horror
54 Shots to Kill 1 Plague Bearer

Fire Warriros with Pules Rifles
86.4 Shots to kill 1 Horror
54 Shots to Kill1 Plague Bearer

So horrors are better, the difference would come from the Bearers not needing to go to ground to get that 2+, so they could still effectively shoot the quad gun, or move to do something.

Also, the nurlge herald is just kinda...bad. You're paying a huge premium for FNP, whereas with the tzeench herald, you're getting +1 str to flickering fire, rerollable shooting and other goodies.

Or, you can not take a herald and the horrors will be even more durable in comparison to the plague bearers.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

Why do you say the Nurgle Herald is bad?
5's on most stats coupled with a cheap etherblade seems pretty good. I'm considering the Palanquin to make him even better.
