So with Eldar now out, and me starting an Eldar force, I was wondering about the FW rulebooks.

As I understand it, current FW rules are in IA11 (The Doom fo Mymeara). When a new codex come out, is it common for there to be new FW rules shortly thereafter? I might want to pick up IA11, but if its about to be replaced, that would be good to know....

Mymeara has the current rules for the ELDAR non-codex stuff that FW make. It doesn't cover ANY of the codex stuff.

They occasionally update their army stuff when a new rules edition comes out OR a new codex that invalidates their old stuff (IAvol3 just went to 2nd ed, updating the Tau stuff to suit the current codex, for example) but don't count on it.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

FW are really inconsistent about this. IA3 second edition was released soon after the new Tau codex with all the updates, but they spent months promising an Elysian pdf update for 6th edition while knowing perfectly well that they were going to put it in IA3 instead of making it a free download.

But some of those units use things like weapons/vehicle upgrades/etc that have new rules in the codex and an army list with units (Falcons, for example) which have new rules. And that's just the rules issues, a proper update would also include new point costs and other balancing changes to bring the rules in line with the new codex.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

At least when 6th dropped, armored battlegroup got its new dex right away, and iirc got a vehicle FAQ to settle some of the discrepancies.

When the new Guard dex dropped in 5th, Forge World released an entirely new PDF list for Armored Battlegroup to bring it in line with the 'dex

Supposedly 1-2 months according to the email response I got to the same question. It probably will be a free pdf as the book is not that old.

Any update on that, or is the new Apoc book supposed to fill that purpose?

The only units in IA:11 that aren't in IA: Apocalypse, IA: Aeronautica or a PDF are the Wasp Assault Walkers and the Phoenix Lord for the Shadow Spectres. And obviously the entire Corsairs army list.

If you just want rules for Eldar units, IA:11 is not worth it. Practically all the rules have been superseded by IA: Apocalypse or IA: Aeronautica.

Thanks for the info!

Although that's too bad... I'll probably pick up one of the two, but not both.

Picked up both, and wow, I'm glad I got them! IA:11 has some amazing content even if I won't use most (if any) of the rules!

Corsairs look fun. Their rules are certainly outdated (some vehicles are in FW:Apoc, and the psycher has new rules). Any other publications out there affecting the Corsairs list? I probably won't have an actual Corsairs list for quite some time (but I did pick up some models - they do look awesome!), but it would be good to know.
