I'm creating a GK henchmen list, and I was thinking about IG for air support. What's the lowest model count/highest number of flier list you can make? I don't have a IG codex, yet.

Also, would anyone recommend any other armies for a pure air support ally? I figured guard were the best since they could take squadrons, but maybe Eldar?

HQ: lord commissar (one model)

Troops: vets (ten models)

Fast: Vendetta squadron with 3x Vendetta

Heavy: Thunderbolt/Avenger

This of course has the drawback of putting 3x Vendettas in a single squadron which will give you a lot of maneuvering problems and limit you to a single target each turn.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

There's no "dedicated transport" shenanigans you can do with the troops?

No. Only Elysian drop troops (a variant IG list from FW) can take flyers as dedicated transports, and their Valkyries aren't very impressive (only a single multilaser or lascannon that can attempt to shoot at flyers). If you want dedicated transport flyers that are useful for more than just delivering the squad inside then you want Necrons.

inquisitors use immortals all the time!

No, but I agree. Valkyries are really cool ideas, but they just don't perform well.

You are playing GK? Ally with Necrons. You can only ever be allies of convenience with people anyways.

For IG though I like to take a squadron of 2 Vendetta (1 is not enough and 3 is too many) with Heavy Bolters. For the mandatory slots I've been taking a CCS with Lascannon and a Platoon with 3 PIS with Lascannons, a PCS with x4 Flamers, and a SWS with x3 Flamers. SWS and PCS ride in the Vendettas while the PIS blob and CCS (with the CCS manning an Icarus Lascannon) camp behind an ADL typically. Bring It Down! on both the Blob and CCS really helps take out enemy flyers, and when they don't do the job there's nothing else quite like Vendettas.

In any event, if you take Vendettas pay the paltry 10 points to get Heavy Bolter sponsons. Its dumb not to, and once you try it once you'll be addicted to that much firepower raining down.
