Can a puppet mastered Wave Serpent fire it's shield as a shooting attack?

Presumably if so it can't then nullify penetrating hits?

It doesn't seem clear-cut, but I guess an argument could be made that as the Serpent Shield rules state it can only deactivate the shield in it's own shooting phase (paraphrased), it wouldn't work with Puppet Master.

But as an Eldar player myself, seeing that it's probably a rare chance my opponent rolls Puppet Master, has his Psyker within range of a Wave Serpent and I'll actually put anything in front of that Wave Serpent for you to fire at in such an occasion, I would allow it to avoid argument.

Serpent shield says "In its Shooting Phase..."

Puppet Master says "...as if it was one of your models..."

So, it is in its shooting phase when Puppet Master is used, therefore it can be forced to deactivate its shields. Though obviously this would be the only shot it can make, I can see the benefit of having the shields lowered.

Yes, the wording of Puppet Master allows you to make a shooting attack exactly as if it were your unit, so you can choose to use any special rules or w/e that the original owner could (a fun tactic is using Puppet Master to get rid of combi-weapon shots).

I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.

"Long ago in a distant land, I, M'kar, the shape-shifting Master of Chaos, unleashed an unspeakable evil! But a foolish Grey Knight warrior wielding a magic sword stepped forth to oppose me. Before the final blow was struck, I tore open a portal in space and flung him into the Warp, where my evil is law! Now the fool seeks to return to real-space, and undo the evil that is Chaos!"

Probably this depends on whether or not the Serpent Shield is a weapon. It's similarly unclear if it can be taken out by a Weapon Destroyed result.

My feeling is that, RAW, it's wargear that can be used in the shooting phase, which, once used, changes which weapons are available to the Serpent. The Shield doesn't say "when shooting, the Serpent can..." The Serpent can choose to deactivate the Shield in its Shooting Phase and then shoot in much the way that a Guardian can choose to Run in its Shooting Phase and then shoot, but Puppet Master doesn't let you do that.

Suppose the rules for the Serpent Shield were exactly the same except that the second sentence/paragraph ended after "...can deactivate its shields". Surely Puppet Master wouldn't enable the use of this piece of wargear.
