I haven't heard much about it, it seems like a very solid AA/fire-support platform for both Guard and Sisters; understandably, IG has the cheap Valkyrie option but for Sisters it seems like a great option without having to use allies.

Has anyone used it? Or seen it in action?

Any thoughts on it?

Avenger is pretty much what fliers should be AV12 front is tough, but AV10 sides make it pretty much a strafe flier. Guns are pretty strong but lacks a lot of TL for when it jinks. However, it has enough firepower to wipe squads the turn it comes on.

The Avenger is pretty much death incarnate to most TMCs with the option for multiple TL las cannons and the AP3 megabolter it's got. Removing one TMC each turn in a single go is very, very worth it. And if a flyrant is on the board, the thing can mulch the Flyrant too.

On the other hand, the Flyrant should have a pretty easy time of chewing up the Avenger.

Avenger is pretty decent, It's not a bad flyer, but it's no Vendetta, rather good and balanced.

The Avenger is plain awesome. I've heard of people doing a little gun change on the Niphlim and using it as one.

The Avenger is awesome. It has the AP 2/3 weapons to hurt marines, the volume of fire (especially with hellfury missiles) to hurt hordes, and even decent firepower against vehicles and other aircraft. And, most importantly, it's a heavy support choice so it doesn't get in the way of your Vultures/Vendettas. Really the only bad thing you can say about it is that it's a bit of a glass cannon with AV 10 side armor and only 2 HP.

And of course for SoB, who would otherwise not have a flyer at all, it's probably an auto-take.

And my monstrous creature heavy lists have learned to fear it. Being able to gut a monstrous creature in one turn from a safe distance is pretty priceless.

I have one for my Sisters of Battle (a few WIP pictures are in my P&M blog) and I've gotten two games in with it so far. I've been running it with bombs and chaff launchers. It is the definitive glass hammer- it shreds whatever you point it towards, but the weak armor on the sides and rear, combined with the fact that it only has two hullpoints, really makes it vulnerable to incoming fire.

In a faceoff against the Black Legion, I Exorcised his anti-air on turn one and two. Turn three, the incoming Avenger singlehandedly shredded a squad of melta-equipped traitor marines, then in the next turn finished them off with a bomb before blasting a hole in the side of a Predator. It was taken down shortly thereafter by a pair of deepstriking Obliterators, who blew its tail off with some Assault Cannon fire (with the help of a Skyfire Nexus).

In a faceoff against the Tau, it came in on turn two (before I was able to deal with his AA). I killed a single Crisis suit (cover), then lost the Avenger immediately thereafter to a cloud of rockets from a pair of Missilesides. Ugh.

Really? That's awesome. (Where is that written down, I want to get a printout.)
Though, can I ask what the point of buying 2 sets of extra weapons (for a total of four extra weapons) when it can only fire four weapons total and it already has 3?

According to what? The IA12/DKoK "Imperial Navy air support squadron" entry is a typo (confirmed by FW on facebook IIRC), the HP for the Avenger and Thunderbolt are swapped.

There isn't much point, which makes the gun options too expensive for what you get. The best way to do it is to take hellfury missiles or bombs. Bombs are hard to use effectively but you can drop the whole load of them counting as a single weapon, while hellfury missiles give you extra anti-horde shooting against targets like boyz/guardsmen/etc where having to snap fire a single LC shot doesn't really matter.

Avenger is good flyer like Ju-87 Stuka it can make chaos on things on the ground (especially foot marines). But there are some bad sides:
1) 10 side armor and just 2 HP.
2) Weapons a not twin linked.
3) Defensive stubber is like a joke. It can shoot only at BS1 at ground targets and uneffective against flyers.

4) Having the option for Hellstrike missiles but it being Ordnance..

I just came to think that Hellstrike missiles are completely useless on flyers, since that means that they can only fire that one missile at full BS and the rest at BS1. The Voss pattern Lightning have horrible rules, but it is such a gorgeus model.
