Neophyte undergoing Ritual of Detestation

Quick rules question (and I hope this doesn't open up a can o' worms): I've been seeing a bunch of people arguing that skimmers that deep strike act like drop pods in that if they scatter over a model, they move minimum distance to not have that happen (see skimmer rules). To me, this seems like something that happens when things move normally, not when they deep strike.
Only reason I bring this up is that I just bought a monolith. I don't think it works that way, and that deep striking monoliths are subject to the mishap rules BEFORE any sort of skimmer rule would kick in. I base this on the idea that Deep Strike isn't normal movement, and that the Skimmer rule only kicks in on normal movement. However, if for some weird reason it DOES work, I'd love to be able to use it.

Absolutely nothing in the Skimmer rules can prevent a mishap that would otherwise occur. A skimmer hasnt finished its movement by the time it mishaps.

Page 36, Arriving from deep strike, uses some interesting terminology that gets around the whole 'movement' argument. Even if you considered deep striking to be movement, you can not use other existing rules that would prevent you from moving into the enemy location because of this terminology. The term in question is 'final position.' If you place the model anywhere else other then the location indicated by scattering, then you have not placed it in the final position. That the final position happens to be in violation of the 1 inch bubble or on top of enemy units doesn't matter, you have been told to place the unit there so you must place the unit there. Unfortunately for the deep striking units, the rest of the deep strike rules are very clear about what happens next in such a situation.

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures. |

Correct. There's been a very lengthy thread about it and that's the general consensus...also on tournaments. And yes, this means the Monolith still sucks

And..... The Skimmer move off of models rule is a complete waste of ink. Because it does nothing at all in the game, as the only way for a skimmer to end a move over another model is by enemy actions/special rules.
The tank shock rules move the models in question out from under the tank.
Also note, that the Drop Pod does not give permission to move more than 1" away from an enemy model, so as written also mishap. As intended and played it is treated very differently though. Though the argument for this is of course that playing it otherwise makes the drop pod inertial guidance rule a waste of ink,,,,,go figure.

Except Inertial guidance would still work against friendly units and impassable terrain. Where the skimmer rule is still in fact a waste of ink.
