Our FLGS Summer League has started. First game:
The Traxxis Campaign continues. While we stay on the trail of the Daemons, we have discovered the Ancient Ones have awakened. The Necrontyr. This has naturally attracted their ancient foes, the Eldar, to these stars. This area of space is quickly becoming an interstellar zoo with all manner of Zenos arriving in a chaotic pattern and timetable. Whatever the prize that the Daemons seek, many others are willing to risk certain death to obtain it for themselves. Unfortunately, whenever the Eldar arrive, their masochistic siblings soon follow.
Such was the case on TS22-3. A small mineral poor world known to be infested by Orks. A world so poor in strategic resources that it would never support an industrial capability. The Orks that sprouted on this world will never leave. And per the Master Schedule of Conquest, this world’s infestation will be exterminated in 73 years, 4 months, and 17 days.
Except they are already gone. Eliminated. With no indication of bombardment or atomics having been used.

Traces of exotic chemical compounds have been detected. Poison designed specifically to act on Orkoid Physiology. This could be a major advancement for the Empire. The ability to eliminate Ork infestation from orbit without destroying the planet or human inhabitants. The downside? A toxin of this complex nature could only be developed by those masters of poison. Dark Eldar.
Search teams were dispatched to the planet’s surface to look for any information. The mission we must undertake. The mission we dare not. We will look for the Dark Eldar. Such was the duty of the team led by Captain Meiji (Calgar). Dispatched with a squad of Terminators in his Land Raider Redeemer; Cleansing Flame; along with a pair of Speeders as advanced scouts, and two runt squads of 4 Marines with Multi-Melta support to search an Ork village that looked like it was abandoned less than a week earlier. As they entered the village, they discovered Them. Led by Lilith herself. Ravagers, Raiders, and Venoms zipping around like angry bees on the other side of the village. And amongst them, a Farseer with a cadre of Rangers. Prisoners? Allies? Bystanders? You can never tell when the Eldar and their step-sisters show up together.
The Dark Eldar strike first. Without warning, as is their nature. Every Ravager firing upon the Land Raider, their Lance weapons tearing the heavy weapons from their mountings and punching a hole strait through the blessed circuitry of the vehicles Machine Spirit. The venerable Cleansing Flame will not bring her namesake into this battle. But her hull is salvageable and she will see service again. (2 glances and 2 punches wreck the Redeemer on turn 1).
While a disheartening loss, Captain Meiji was able to provide precise locating data to the Drop Force prior to abandoning his trusty steed. And with this data 2 Drop Pods arrived within meters of their intended location. Pod 1 discharging Captain Harada (Vulkan) and a small squad of troops, supported by flamers. In a brilliant triple fireball of faith, the Rangers occupying the rooftop of an Ork adobe house disappeared.
Pod 2’s occupants, a runt squad of Marines with Melta and Combi-Melta weapons poured forth and destroyed one of the Ravagers. A suitable down-payment on avenging the Land Raiders loss. Speeder 1 advanced and took a potshot at one of the dancing Venoms, but was unable to inflict any damage. She would subsequently take a critical shot from a Lance weapon and fall immobile to the ground, her crew trying in vain to get their gunship back into the fight. Speeder 2 had truer aim. Using the smoking hull of the Land Raider as cover, they advanced upon a Raider full of Incubi led by a Haemonculus and turned the graceful vehicle into a miniature nuclear detonation. While the Incubi survived the explosion, they were temporarily trapped in the smoldering wreckage (pinned). Captain Meiji and the Terminators advanced towards a group of mindlocked Razorwing raptors led by twin Beast Masters.
Upon seeing the wrath of Captain Meiji, the Beast Masters thought better of their advance and chose to attack what they thought would be easier prey, the 2 runt squads of Marines just arrived in the pods. Covering the retreat, the Venoms poured every bit of fire they had into the Terminator Squad, killing 3. Captain Meiji himself getting the attention of the Ravagers and taking superficial wounds (Eternal Warrior). The Dark Eldar then sprung their trap…a second group of Beast Masters with their own enslaved birds of prey. The Beasts moving away from the Terminators charged into the second squad, with a group of Razorwings also attacking Captain Harada’s squad. The second unit of Razorwings then charged directly into Captain Harada’s squad. And so the trap was sprung…or so they thought. After all, Captain Harada is the personal sparring partner of Daimyo Tokugawa himself. With the grace of a ballet dancer, the ferocity of a tigress defending her kits, and a precision that would make Telion of the Ultra-Marines blue with envy, Harada quickly dispatched 3 entire flocks of Ravenwing. SGT Ito sought out one of the Beast Masters and quickly dispatched him to whatever hell he had enslaved these beautiful birds into. As for second squad, between their counter-fire and subsequent hand-to-hand combat they also killed both Beast Masters and a few individual birds. All for the loss of Private Sato in 2nd Squad. Now free of the Masters diabolical control, the Razorwings quickly fled the scene to revel in their new found freedom. (Beasts lost combat huge due to Vulkan’s S6 insta-killing entire bases of Ravenwing; both units failed Ld and ran off the board).
The momentum now turning, and with a third squad of Marines, this one at full strength, screaming from the heavens in their pod and significant targets in range, Lilith Hesperex would learn what it is to attack the Emperor’s Katanas. Captain Harada advanced upon a Venom full of Wyches, Captain Meiji moved towards the Raider carrying Lilith, and the surviving Terminators sought out a Ravager that had just wounded Meiji. The newly arrived 3rd Squad turned one Ravager into a melted pile of slag while the Terminators used their Thunder Hammers to destroy a second Ravager. Captain Harada was able to immobilize the Venom with a surgical swing of his blade through the control coils of the alien skimmer. Not to be outdone, Captain Meiji used his twin PowerFists to rip through the fuel cell of Lilith’s Raider, turning it into a smoking crater with no hint of its former grace visible.
Then Lilith struck. With a rage that would make an Inquisitor Lord facing a heretic seem like a minor tantrum. With the Eldar Farseer using his witch powers to immunize Lilith (cast Forwarning, Prescience, and Fortune) she went after Captain Meiji in personal combat. Despite landing several blows that should have crushed the Lady of Pain out of existence, Lilith was able to strike the Captain down. Even now he is still in a coma, his enhanced physiology fighting whatever poison she managed to inflict upon him.
Captain Harada, still engaged with the now immobile Venom, struck again and the subsequent explosion killed 2 Wyches. A second Venom opened up on the 2nd Squad, killing the melta-gunner. The Wyches in that venom then charging the squad, to no effect on either side. The Incubi, now free of the wreckage of their Raider, maneuvered around one of the original runt squads seeking an opening, wary of the powerful Multi-Melta that would obliterate any of them should they remain still for too long.
True to form, an Incubi stuck her head around a corner and promptly lost it to the Multi-Melta, her decorative hair extensions providing little protection from a weapon designed to kill tanks. Captain Meiji left the remaining Wyches from the Venom he destroyed to the mercies of the 3rd Squad, who promptly shot them all from the cover of a forest. Captain Meiji had noticed the ornate case on the roof of the hut the Eldar Rangers originally occupied, and he needed his men to recover it. Charging into the Wyches that were holding up his men, the slaughter was over before they realized he was in their midst.
Unseen by the remaining Dark Eldar Ravager, the remnants of 1st Squad had snuck up on the floating gun platform and managed to attach several Krak Grenades and a Melta Bomb to the hull of the ship. The subsequent detonations bringing the threat of that vehicles Lance weaponry to an end.
Lilith then broke off from the group of Grotesques and the Farseer to hunt down Captain Harada. The Grotesques moving in towards the third squad. The last Venom and it’s cargo of Wyches realizing their prize was about to be captured, made a dash towards the adobe building that both 1st and 2nd Squads were now converging on. The Incubi finally charged into the runt squad they were stalking and killed them to a man, having learned the lesson of bringing a knife to a fight against anti-tank guns. Lilith, with the same poison used on Captain Meiji, also felled Captain Harada. She then moved into the adobe building, intent on claiming her prize, only to have gotten beaten to the punch by 1st Squad.
Looking skyward and seeing 5 more drop pods, 2 of them the bulkier design used to bring the Chapters hero’s now entombed in the sarcophagus of their mechanical Dreadnought bodies, she knew it was time to leave. Her chemical mixture so effective at killing Orks in the case now held by the Marines, useless without the catalyst she alone possessed…her very blood.

This was a nail-biter of a game with Ben’s Dark Eldar. We rolled our mission, The Scouring with Dawn of War Deployment. As it turned out I held both objectives worth 2 points each. Ben held the 3 point and 4 point objectives (the 4 pointer being the Prize). The 1 pointer was midfield and ignored by all. At the end of turn 5, I held a 2 point objective with a surviving runt squad, the 10 man 3rd Squad holding the 3 pointer, and a single man from the 1st squad holding the 4 pointer. Ben was set up in turn 6 to contest the 3 pointer with the grotesques and have Lilith kill the lone marine on the 4 pointer with the remaining Wyches then claiming it. I rolled for the game to continue onto turn 6…
And rolled a 2.
Ben claimed First Blood (the Land Raider), Warlord (Vulkan), Linebreaker (the Haemonculus broke off from the Incubi to claim that), and killed 1 Fast unit (a speeder) for 6 points. I took 15 for the win, 1 for Linebreaker (multiple units in his zone), and killed 2 Fast units (Beasts) for 18 total.

Life isn't fair. But wouldn't it be worse if Life were fair, and all of the really terrible things that happen to us were because we deserved them?
