I have been constructing a IG/GK list recently and have found myself considering what the optimal set up is for a Stormraven Gunship. What I have come up with is this:

Storm Raven, Typhoon Missile Launcher, Hurricane Bolters, Psybolt Ammo: 280pts

It seems quite potent, especially against hoards, however it is also quite expensive.

So, what do you think? Is this a good set up? How do you run your Stormravens?

TL-MM, TL-AC, Side Sponsons and Psybolt Ammunition. Never looked back. 6 or 12 Str5 shots, 4 Str7 shots, and a TL-MM. It's a shame it's missiles are garbage unless you're up against nids, eldar, or other grey knights.

What goat said. If I know who I'm going to play against ahead of time, I somethimes exchange the AC for a plasmagun.

+1 It's short range firepower is ridiculous. Wipe a squad then pop any tank thanks to potms. Every turn.

I kit mine with The TL Lascannon and Typhoon ML...but versatility is the name of my game.

You have either 3 S8+ shots for AT every turn...or 4 S4 blasts providing you still have missiles.

And machine spirit give more versatility.

My Adepticon team last year played 2 like this and it did very well against some very competitive players.

My BA Stormraven is pretty much anti-helldrake all the time. TL MM and TL Lascannon for me. And sponsons for anti-troop love. Still, I really feel like this thing is still over priced for only have 3 hull points. I have demonstrated this to GK and BA players over and over. I've shot down more Stormravens with prescienced snap shot heavy fire than skyfire weapons.

Maybe its better for the GK because the BA have ways to kill tanks in pretty much every squad that wants a way to kill tanks. Lots of ways to get melta in the BA.

Also, don't forget Stormravens are not *immune* to melta, as I shot down two in one game with prescienced attack bikes with MM. The lack of second die just means I shoot from 24" instead of 12" and just pretend I'm being lazy

I'm torn. Stormravens have tended to die quickly for me even at 230 points, especially as more skyfire is being introduced in codices. I would not be comfortable in a 12 armor vehicle, even a flyer, at 280 points honestly

Granted, last time it died was a pot shot from a CSM with a combi-melta who rolled 3 6s in a row...

It's the same level of investment as a land raider, but it is far less durable. The base price is too high, but while I'm paying the 200, I might as well make it versatile for 230.
