I was playing against my brother in law in a 2k point army. I was tau and he was dark angels. He dropped to pods in first go within 6 inches of two path finder teams and engaged and wiped out with combi

flamers. Is there anything tau can do to survive such an attack?

For non list changing tactics:
If you see drop pods and know he will take flamers of any flavor, deploy your pathfinders and kroot by outflanking. and chose to go second

This will force him to waste resources for a turn on other things that may be harder to kill.

For list tactics:
Give them Devilfishes
