The title says it all, I am interested in doing a Mycentic Spore themed Tyranid army but I am confused to wether or not the Spores follow the same rules as Drop Pods or not as I have been scanning the book and not found anything, help a blind guy out please!

Well... they don't scatter into units, like Drop Pods, and there are units inside, like Drop Pods, but they use normal Reserve rules, unlike Drop Pods.

They follow the rules for Mycetic Spores in the Tyranid Codex.

What were you looking for, specifically?

Just did not know if they had FAQ'd the rule or something along those lines, that is very disappointing to hear that we cant get half of them in on the first turn and to be honest kind of turns me off from running the army now....

If they had altered the rule, it would be in the Tyranid FAQ. Always the best first stop for rules queries.

Really? I consider this an advantage. Following the "standard" reserve rules mean that we always have an advantage against Drop Pod armies as we can counter them, and we can counter opponents regular reserves half of the time. Plus, with some reserve modifiers, our army hits at once instead of piecemeal.

I understand that but if I burrow with the Mawlocs that I intend to take does that mean I would auto lose turn 1? Also don't like it my Hive Tyrant would be the only thing on the board to shoot at.

Agreed. With the changes to reserve rolls, this is huge. All you need to do is make sure you keep everything alive that's on the board.

Also note: While most people laugh at Fortifications for Tyranids since they can't shoot weapons, you can still take advantage of a Comms Relay. If you want all of your Spores to show up on Turn 2, you have a pretty good chance of that happening.

Nids cannot take Fortifications or so I thought?

Nids can take fortifications. They just cannot man the guns.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Nids can take them, however they can't fire the guns. No hands, etc.

If they did... they would have the "inertial navigation" rule...

Other big differences are:

- you can't attach ICs to a unit in reserve that is deep striking with a spore pod.

- you can't choose to deploy the unit normally and drop the pod empty.

Also I think a Mycetic Spore that drops troops (say a pack of Devilgants) near an objective, can claim and contest the objective...

No, they're never scoring, see their entry on page 90.

I love that all the Tyranids from Hive Tyrants and Swarm Lords to Rippers and Gants know nothing about firing that gun but give them the com relay and they'll just talk all day. Nids must use up a lot of minutes.

Thanks Redemption. I reread the rules on page 54, but didn't check the Army List itself. Darn GW, can't they put things in one place...

They may not be scoring, but they are a very easy Linebreaker as they are still a Denial unit.

that also means you can drop them at an objective and FORCE the enemy to use firepower on taking them out to be able to capture it.

Does it matter if they are? Its a turn of them not shooting at another possible target.

Most of the time mine die from shots from units that had no other target so it's not like I gained Nything from them shooting the spore.

But that's moving towards tactics.
