I really need help coming up with a competitive / strong list.
this is just a rough idea of what i want to try and go for but im open for suggestions
i do realize the bikes is a huge point sink i could probably go without the chaplain for sure but what are your thoughts on this list?

So I have played BA with moderate success in 6th, which IMHO is pretty good success seeing as how they are one of the weaker books right now. You are correct that their specialists are more expensive than they should be, and as much as I hate it, it means I simply don't use them. In addition to that, I rarely even assault ( I will when I need to) with my BA. My point is, its hard to play BA as they were intended today, so I've simply adapted and made more of a shooty list and play hardcore to the objectives at hand. My list I run usually includes the following

Libby
Termies with TH/SS and LR w/ TL-LC. (this is my assault unit and I don't even always put the termies in the LR depending on whom I'm playing, sometimes they are a counter charge unit)
1 sanguinary priest with no equipment (goes with a tac squad)
I use 1-2 tac squads (with some kind of heavy weapon, and usually power fist on one, just in case)
Always one squad of scouts with sniper rifles, a missle launcher and camo cloaks for hom objectives. They almost always live to the end, and they give you some tatcical flexibilty.
Devestators (don't mix and match your devestators) with one or two marines unequipped for extra wounds if you can afford it.

And then I fill out the rest of my list with flyers, more firepower, or whatever. My main point is, if you try to play BA as they were meant to be played in this edition, you're probably gonna lose. The best thing i've found is to play them like C:SM that get the red thirst.

One last thing, IMHO, EVERY SINGLE BA named character is overpriced for what they do. So if you play with one, you're already at a disadvantage.

This is my 2 cents on the matter. I'm sure some will disagree but this is what I've found with my experience in 6th.

what is your opinion on the bikes though?
i had also considered turning one of the Baals into a outflanking Flamestorm. i do want to get scouts but atm i have no access to them. now my next question to you is:

- if i went the scout path id consider taking DA allies a cheap Librarian from their HQ over the chaplain on a bike (they're lvl 1 lib on a bike is way cheap) and then again their scouts are even cheaper and have the same gear. would you agree that would be a smart move?

I have only played a few games with bikes, and I found them over priced. I only ran 3 though, so maybe if you ran more they could be more effective.

As far as DA goes, it wouldn't be an awful move, but you would still have to have a BA HQ. I like running a libby as my BA HQ, as all the named characters are over priced for what you get, and the Libby is better than the captain at 100 pts. So you can do it, but you would have 2 libbies on the board. I have no problem with that in and of itself. On the other hand, I've never seen the point in allying marines with marines, when you there are other allies that give you access things marines don't have, like cheap troops. That's just my opinion though. I ally my BA with IG or Eldar, but like I said, if you don't mind have 2 librarians running around and the points that go into that, the DA scouts would be the way to go.

BA bikes I find to be quite efficient, since they have both jink and T5 FNP goodness. They also hit quite hard with the hammer of wrath rule and they are a good plasma platform since they are relentless.

For troops, I'm really liking 5 man ASMs with handflamer/flamer in a TL HF razorback. They are cheap and can simulate assault by flaming instead.

It's kind of over kill and almost pointless to have the DA there except for the fact they're lib is cheap as hell and so are their scouts.

So i kind of have access to use Tau allies when im not versing my brother, which in about 2 months time there is another tourny which i might have a go at with tau allies.
so the obvious choice to take from tau is Broadsides they make up perfectly for my lack of Anti air. so this is what id think of going for from the allies side let me know your thoughts be as harsh as you want its better to know now then find out getting tabled XD

so i'd probably go for something like this in my allies:

HQ:
commander with: Drone controller, Command and Control node, Velocity tracker, Iridium armor (it does make him cost but now if he goes with broadsides they're all Twinlinked and skyfiring.

Elite:
Riptide: Ion Cannon, Interceptor, TL Fusion blaster

Troop:
either 2x 10 man kroot squads with 1 hound for Acute senses when outflanking for line breaker
or just 1 20 man squad

id consider a small path finder team but doubtful id take one.

and then in heavy id maybe go for something like this:
3x Broadsides with High yield, Velocity Tracker, SMS, 3 or 4 Missile Drones (commander to make them skyfire and better bs with rerolls)

what do people think about this for an allied detachment to go with BA
