Hey folks, I am about to make a new army and I really want an army that is enjoyable to paint.
It would be nice if you could point out some armies that are fun to paint and why they are fun.

Please give your opinion on what army is fun to paint and why

Orks definitely. You can go as garish and ott as you want plus there's so many different colour schemes.
My own army is csm and I enjoy painting them, but with orks there's far mor scope for individualisation.

What game system?

40k id say Orks as you can get as creative building and painting. or Grey knights as they have lots of bobs and bangles and lots of shiny OSL opportunity

How about chaos then? Still plenty of scope for variation and personalisation.

I actually bought a pack of Khorne Bezerkers and I was bored with paiting them, as they seem dull to paint IMHO

I think at the end of the day, what is "fun" to paint IMO is simply...

a) What you think looks cool.

b) What you can paint well and/or fast.

I got sick of painting Orks after about 30 of them. After a while I came back to them with a new scheme that let me speed paint them in about 20 minutes per model and I suddenly enjoyed them a lot more because I could churn out a unit of them in a weekend to a reasonably high standard. It was fun to start a unit and see results quite quickly and see my army growing.

On the other hand, I really enjoyed painting Rohan models, because I think they're nice looking models and are well detailed and even though it took me 3 hours per model, I liked the results. Of course that's the exact opposite of the Orks, but it's fun for a different reason.

One of the most fun units I've painted in recent times was my Night Goblins. Because they're small and simple, you can paint them to a high standard and still churn them out quickly.

I enjoyed painting my Space Wolf scouts (the old ones that every hated for some reason but I actually liked ) because they had a lot of detail and came out looking nice when I finished.

I enjoy painting most character models, but I wouldn't want to paint an entire army of models that has that much detail, as it would get boring and repetitive after 2 models.

If by 'fun' you mean how varied an open an army can be (like the ramshackle aspects of orks) I'd say chaos might be your best bet.
(Although, I also find that imperial guard can be an interesting army to paint and model if you go for a decent theme.)

I'd vote IG or Dark Eldar. Both have opportunities to do some interesting stuff.

Any army can be fun, if you put some research into it.

Pick the aspect of painting you like best and run with that. Mine's freehand, so my wolves are covered in celtic knotwork and saxon runes. If you like bright, trippy contrasting colours, go Dark Eldar with all their 'roid pipes and alien armour

For me, it is between Orks and/or Tau. Now Tau are a bit simplistic at first, but once you get down how and what you want their colors to look, you can pull off some interesting ideas with them (I have a techno-barbaric tau sept I made up and did a bit of work with that).

Worse comes to worse, grab some plasticard, modelling putty, and if it's chaos, get a box or two of possessed stuff to redistribute across your entire army and customize weapons, horns, etc. I used chain swords and converted them into bayonets for my iron warriors. I took chaos fantasy knights' polearms and gave them to my chosen. I made custom pauldrons to make certain models look heavier... If the thing you are not painting is not entertaining enough, make it ore exciting

I think that Dark Eldars would be interesting to paint.
I am thinking about a dark red base color and with a metal or grey trim, any thoughts on this, and maybe some photos as im having a hard time finding some with that scheme?

Tau are fun ez to paint and always look good. Space wolves are also, as they have so much detail. I just started playing/Painting Eldar. They are a challange due to them only looking good in bright colors. Ive never painted anything so small and full of detail. I would say if your looking for a challange but something fun at the same time. Then i would do Eldar or DE.

Except that everyone,EVERYONE, does them red or red/black. Think outside the box. Maybe their armour is made from the bones of their foes, and the loincloths are flayed skin?

Chaos. Huge variety in painting styles with your daemons, corruption, warband heraldry, machinery etc. Extra fun to paint up allied Renegade Guard and Chaos Daemon allied detachments.
Tau with airbrush effects. Lots of good surfaces for it.
IG, although perhaps more fun to model a unique or special regiment than to paint. It's great for conversion work.

Chaos daemons, specifically tzeentch. You can model them to look like anything, paint them in the most garish colors you want, and they aren't horrible on the field so you won't get disheartened after your first game.

Hrrrm... Tau is pretty uniform, so easy and looks good on tabletop. SM are, well, blah unless you really like getting into customization (in which case I'd do space wolves since they are supposed to be redone in the next year)
Tyranids are fun, although I dont paint them too much. Lots of opportunities for 'ard coat and washes
Necrons and regular imperial guard are pretty uniform.
Chaos demons are definately the next most variable after orks. Special IG like Vostroyan is cool too, kind of like eldar and dark eldar
