As a cron player (and previously Ork) I don't have access to much/anything psychic. However the new disciplines are pretty awesome imo and I want to use them. So, what (besides GK obviously) would make for a good psyker to ally in, and which lores/powers are the best to have? I honestly don't know about psykers and how good they are so any ideas are appreciated

Well, me and the plurality of folks here think Divination is the best psyker discipline. As for armies that can use it and ally with 'Crons, I would say see where the following fall in your ally matrix:
Space Wolves
Blood Angels
Eldar
GK (I know you said no)
Chaos Daemons (fat chance you can ally them)

I think that is all the armies with Divination.

Daemons and Eldar have no chance. GK are Convenience and SW/BA are Desperate. When I said no GK it was more because everyones a psyker in there so I was trying to avoid the obvious answer. However that is probably the only Mastery Level 3 option I will get, and they also get Telekinesis which has some clever powers, and with the Inq option there's a 4th (5th with Coteaz) available. BA have access to Sternguard and Biomancy/Telepathy too. Decisions......

's funny, although I personally hold the same opinion as you, you're literally the first person other than myself that I've seen espouse that view. Almost everyone I've seen so far has said that given the choice between Biomancy and Divination, they would take Biomancy every time.

Biomancy buffs the psyker normally, Divination buffs units normally so it depends on who you are asking

For necrons I would take wolves in pod and a rhino. yes they arent scoring as use the wolves in the pod as tank hunters and the rhino ones as anti psyker, there is not other army in the game that can stop blessings as well as maledications and PSA as well as wolves can (blessings at all now). IF anti psyker is the only reason you want them for then wolves win outright.

The issue for Necrons is that they are not Battle Brothers with any psyker armies. Which means anything psychic you take can only

1.) Buff the allied contigent
2.) Hurt your enemy.

Divination for example is only going to help your Cron army if you take something in your allied contingent that it helps (like a big squad of GK troops.) Unless you roll Misfortune.

Same with Biomancy, does not help your Crons unless you roll Enfeeble.

Essentially your Crons only gain benefit from offensive psychic powers.

So for Crons it is really more of a, does adding an allied detachment in general add to your army. (Taking GK troops/paladins, Wolves for some reason (though I don't like desperate allies) Then deciding if adding a Psyker HQ would help.

Honestly unless you are taking GKs I would just accept the fact that you don't have psykers.

Add me to the list as well then. Coteaz, 10 man Strike Squad with Psybolt ammo and 2 Psycannons. Cast Prescience, watch infantry squad disappear under a hail of fire.

Just remember that if you're allies of convenience or desperate allies, then your allied psykers will only be able to target allied troops. As stated yonder ^^ I'd go with an SW Rune Preist, purely for the denial ability. Stick him in a Drop Pod with a squad of something with Meltaguns and go tank hunting.

Or just accept that it's the way it's going to have to be and take Knights. Coteaz with 10, as I said above, is a good Combo, but a Librarian accompanying a 5 man Terminator Squad is a nice/nasty (depending on which side of the table you are) surprise for your opponent.

Remember, that desparate allies don't even deny so you would only include them for killing ability. Also if you have flyers you need to be very careful to avoid crashing if you fail the test for not trusting your allies.

But with SW having Jaws and living lightening they have some bloody good powers to use

I'd take

Rune priest JOTWW, Living lightening
5 GH in rhino

Either 10 GH in pod with 2 meltas OR

7 Wolf guard in pod all with combi meltas

400-406pts for that

I still don't like the non-scoring/Denial aspect of it and needing to be careful of model placement.

Were I adding Wolves it would probably be
Double Jaws Priests
2 x 5 GH in Pods (meltas)
3 WG in Pod with COmbi-meltas

Mostly just getting Jaws on the table for circumstances where it is awesome.

That said I'm not sure that is better than GK allies, or CSM allies or just more Crons.

You can get a ML 3 out of CSM... so that pretty much limits you to CSM or GK. I won't run desperate allies, your not gaining anything that doesn't have lots of risk.

3000pts: Hive Fleet Empusa

Thanks for all the ideas it looks like my crons may have to do without due to all the negatives *sigh* but if I were to take a psychic PRIMARY detachment which would be good and what powers work best?
