Hey guys! First time posting forum and I am making a Tyranid army. I am trying to make a speedy-ish, CC oriented army that can get in the enemies face and rip them apart.

Here it is:

HQ
Hive Tyrant - Wings, scything talons, twin linked deathspitter, regeneration
-265

Troops

2 Genestealer broods (7 genestealers, 1 broodlord each) - Broodlord, toxin sacs, adrenal glands
-372

2 Hormagaunt broods (9 each) - adrenal glands, toxic sacs
-180

Fast Attack

3 Gargoyle broods (10 each)
-180

Thank you for ur help!

Your HQ is nice, but a tad excessive for a mere 1000pt game. You have over a fourth of your points invested in 1 model. Not a clever choice for a horde army. Your Genestealer broods are too small. A round or so of shooting will quickly wipe them out. Consolidate them into one if you want that many Genestealers, and run your Broodlord with toxin sacs and biomancy. Your Hormagaunt broods are illegal. 10 models minimum per brood, and both are too small. If you want them to live, combine them into one giant mob. They'll live longer. Your Gargoyle broods are also, you guessed it, too small. Same issues. If you want to bring hordes, you don't bring a bunch of small ones. Small ones get wiped out in a turn. Large ones tend to live far longer.

Hormagaunts need to be in squads of 10 or more, am I not correct? Even so, I'd advise bumping them up to 2 squads of 15 at least. Hormagaunts are easy pickings in such low numbers.

I'd advise you lose the adrenal glands on the stealers to make up some points, and maybe drop the broodlords too. They're too expensive with all those upgrades, and are likely to die before seeing combat.

Tyrant: I'd either run him as pure close combat (2 sets of scything talons perhaps) or pure shooting (2 sets of Devourers) the deathspitters aren't very good anyway. And maybe lose regen to free up more points to bump up the model count on your gaunts.

Hope this helps.

I did think that I invested too many points into the hive tyrant, but I wanted to make sure that he lived much longer. Thank you for pointing out the illegal hormagaunts and I will change the genestealers as well. Again thank you!

Flyrant is the go-to choice for virtually any sized force. 2x Twin-linked devourers will serve you better.

What's your basic strat with this list?

Beside the flyrant (and getting extremely lucky with genestealers), how do you plan to deal with armor? Stealers just aren't that good anymore, and gargoyles/gaunts can't do anything against AV over 10.
What's the plan for the Broodlord? Going for any Psyker schools in particular? It's not a bad list, just a little confused, I think.

EIther way, it's a decent start. Just needs a little more direction, imo.

A quick list at 1000, to keep with your horde motif:

HQ: Parasite of Mortrex (160)

Troops: Genestealer Brood - 10 'Stealers w/ AG; Broodlord w/ AG, ST (235)
Troops: Hormagaunt Brood - 20 'Gaunts w/ AG TS (200)

Elite: Hive Guard Brood - 3 Hive Guard (150)

Fast: Gargoyle Brood - 25 Gargoyles w/ AG TS (200)

Leaves you 55 points to play with more models or different upgrades. Hive Guard are, essentially, the easiest anti-AV to field for Tyranids, and they are great at any point value. Another really strong low-point unit is Termagants w/ Devourers. Ten points a piece, but definitely effective, especially in a spore. Of course, this would assume you had a parasite conversion and lots of ripper swarms. So avoiding that, you could throw in a Tyranid Prime without upgrades, along with a handful of warriors.

What models do you have available in your army?

I was planning on using the genestealers and broodlord to infiltrate closer to the enemy and the hive tyrant was going to fly around and pick off key targets like armor or independent characters. The gargoyles we're going to fly around with the hive tyrant and basically shoot at everything that they can. The Hormagaunts are going to just walk right up the middle and feed on everything.
