Hey all,

I'm sure you have all seen a billion of these threads but i would love if you could just take a moment of you time to leave a comment.

I currently have a large(ish) Tau army and i am looking to start a second army.

I am looking for something that will be a different play style and reasonaly competitive. Dont mind any armies really but would rather a army with a lowish model count. (Less than about 80 at 2k points).

Cheers all, look forward to what you all have to say

Eldar Wraith army? Relatively low model count and nice minis with competitive options if built right.

Nidzilla! 6 MCs at 1500 points is just awesome.

Playing mostly Necromunda and Battletech, Malifaux is awesome too!

Nidzilla is fun. You end up with horde of grants too though.

The Nidzilla lists i have found look like a good laugh. Low model count and lots of big nice bugs to paint. Nice change from the small tau :p

How competitive is a list such as Nidzilla. Not looking for something that would wreck everything but just pretty rounded.

What kind of line up would you recommend for a 2k list.

Cheers all

something like

2 x flyants w/ TL devourers

3 x hive guard
2 x zoanthoapes in spore
1 x doom in spore

2 x 10 man gants
2 x tervigon (3 powers TS AG)

20 x gargolyes

1 x trygon
1 x trygon prime..

This is off the top of my head, but should be my 2k army.

I have been running

2 Flyrant
2 Tervigon
2 Harpy
20 Grants

You need about 80 grants to run it though.

As an alternative to the deceptively high model count of Nidzilla due to all of your spawning gribblies, you could do Grey Knights. They are a solid army, and with allies you can make some really destructive combinations

Ah so with the Nidzilla list, although the starting model count is low it quickly escalates as you can spawn stuff in im guessing.
As you probably guessed i have never played nids before

Cheers

Those Tervigons each spawn 3d6 gaunts until they roll doubles, so you need a lot of extras on hand

You better do Eldar. Follow the new codex train

Nidzilla would be the most fun, I think. But as others said, you'd need a lot of gaunts for how much you'd spawn.

Wraith Eldar army would be low model counts and is pretty strong. Mine only has 24 models I think?

Grey Knights are also a good option, though I don't know much about them in terms of playing. I've only read their codex and seen their models.

Tau and Eldar while very different, are too similar. I know you dont want hordes which limits things. Blood Angels are a low model count army, and are quite good. I also think Grey Knights can be incredibly low model count. Chaos Space marines are the epitome of evil as Tau are the epitome of good in 40K, so maybe you could go counterpoint and go Chaos Space marines. TOTALLY different army. People will thank you for not playing yet another Space marine force even if it is a bunch of manniacal evil doers.

Yeah i agree i think although Eldar seems to be the in thing it is to similar to Tau and i dont really like the models all that much.
As it stands i think the two best options would either be Grey Knights or Tyranids. Will do some more research into lists and viability.

Cheers all for the insight

@ OP

Find something that allies well with Tau and then you can grow it while using it.

In no particular order, CSM, Eldar, SM, would be my recommendation. CSM can give you an assault counter punch or a baledrake after you've wiped out their flyers. So mank brutal combinations here. Eldar: so much synergy here. Nothing like some warp spiders to babysit your gunline, seers to boost your Riptides, or jetbikes for the late game obj grab. SM compliment well too. Not to mention they'll be updated soon.
