Hi guys, I recently played against my first dark eldar opponent.

It's worth noting that I lost the match, but was wanting to clarify the stacking of cover. The chap in question was utilising jink on his raiders and venoms, plus hiding them behind cover to achieve a 2+ cover save. This seemed more than broken to my humble marine self.

Upon double checking e rules, I couldn't see anywhere that says the saves from jink DO NOT stack, but stealth and shrouded specifically state that they do stack? I'm really wondering if this is rules legal? It would mean a 5+ from jink plus a 4+ from actual cover.

It's also worth noting that I have a tau player in my area who utilises a similar system, using d pods jink and physical cover.

Any light shed on this would be helpful. Also if my chum is wrong, he's a stickler for read as written.....bit sucky but meh, so I'll have to back myself up.

Cheers all.

Jink gives a 5+ cover save.

A ruin gives a 4+ cover save.

Remind your opponent that 40k is a permissive ruleset, AkA The rules don't say I can't place my models back on the board after you've killed them and use them next turn, but that doesn't mean I can do it. The rules system is permissive: this means you may only do things you are expressly allowed to do or that the rules imply you can do. You are not allowed to do anything else.

Then ask your opponent to find permission to combine them and use one to reduce the other. (He will not be able to find said info).

If the unit had the Stealth or Shrouded Special rule then those add to the cover save.

Jink gives you a cover save, not a cover save modifier. Cover saves don't have a stacking mechanic you just have two saves and have to pick the best.

That's what I'd figured as the listing isn't +x to cover.

Thanks guys, may well try that DeathReaper.

He was probably confusing it with other things such as stealth and shrouded which do improve the cover save. It says so explicitly on the rule though. You can't just throw together several cover saves the way he did.
