Do I bring bikes or spawn(MoN) with my biker lord?

Lord - bike, MoN, PF, bbos, SoC.

I'm really for the bikes atm. They're able to specialize more, faster, get jink, armor save!, special weapons and you can bring more bodies. Being able to specialize more lets them rush up with the lord and a PF champ to boost up to take out high AV after surviving a round with 3+/4+ saves. Or plasmas if you don't like termies.

No MoN on the bikes though. They're more survivable with a cuple extra bodies instead, plus it gives you more dakka.

I would say bikes, but with MoN (T6)
I have never used Spawn but I hear good things about them

Spawn have been good, (better than bikes for a while), but I think that trend is turning.

Bikes have been hurting due to Heldrakes, as they die quick to Bale Flamers. But with Tau and Now Eldar, knocking down some of those drakes bikes got better. Throw in that both those armies ignore cover all over the place, spawn have gotten worse, they rely on cover and toughness for durability, when both are largely ignored, they take a beating. They also lack the ability to damage units without assaulting, which means they they lack some options that bikes have.

Well, I'd opt for Spawn. They are faster than Bikers since they are beasts and are more resilient in the presence of Helldrakes.

It does seem like everybody compares how good a unit is to how it does vs helldrakes.

But if you have a lord on a bike, do you need to have beasts that are faster? You dont want them to outrun him do you?

emmm how are beasts faster?, the bikes ignore terrain just like beasts, they roll for dangerous terrain thou, but still move 12" and bikes are actually faster since they can turbo boost, while the spawns can just run with re-roll. For charging purposes the spawns are indeed better due to the fleet thou, however with 12" movement you should rarely use it, it is great to have for those impossible charges thou.

Bikes can't get on ruins, that is a huge point that should be considered, however if you plan on running an IC with the spawns the IC can't get on ruins as well so you would have to deattach it

Worth mentioning that if the Lord is on a Bike, he has Jink and therefore a 5+ Cover Save at all times. This then means that when he trucks with Spawn, he has a cover save while they do not --> Open to 'Focus Fire' and making the bodyguard redundant.
Purely on that basis I'd say Bikes since they are actually protecting him.

Focus fire does not work that way it is a specific cover save or worse, so you could shoot around the ic to just hit the spawn but not the other way around

Yup, you got confused on how Focus Fire works and even if it did he could LoS the wounds onto the spawns
