Jealous that Horus is Warmaster

all over the world

hi guys/girls

Im looking at investing into a decent gaming board. Im relatively new to warhammer but have a good sized krieg army in the process of being painted up.

I'll be running a Mechanicum purist army for horus heresy so i'm serious about keeping with the hobby and my budget isnt limited too much either.

I'm thinking the city fight boards from FW look pretty sweet but wondered on what other peoples thoughts are as i'm torn between getting a zone mortalis set up for some spaceship based battles instead as the HH will be featuring a lot of scenarios based like this in the future.

The RoB boards look ok, ive had some in the past and noticed that FW are putting more effort into that range lately with the upcoming space marine stronghold that allows 4 to be put together with the skyshield mounted on the top in the middle of the 4.

I will be progressing to apocalyptic size battles as i have a warhound and so torn in many different directions. So, what would you do

a - 2 x 2 mdf squares with textured paint and make your own city up?
b - RoB with add on FW pieces as they are released?
c - FW city RoB tiles?
d - sod the lot, zone mortalis!!!!!

or any other ideas?

if a dolphin will jump out of water for fish, just imagine what it would do for chips?

If you can afford it, and you're the one making the table so it's all your vision, I'd go with the tiles, just get any you like and then to add some of your own flavour, make a tile or two of your own and add to the mix.

Option A; I built my own board on 1x1 and 2x2 tiles and it's been well worth the effort. Lots of fun modelling it and I can say it's mine.

Gosh if you have the cash, do what you please

but personally

for city fights, flat 2x2 or 1x1 of whatever flavor makes easy city blocks that can be rearranged when you want.

for Krieg style mud and trenches build on mdf and 2inch foam for the trenches.

for grass land, unless you like a harry board a simple 4 by x length of felt works great. but it really depends on the specifics you looking for.

The what? Where was this mentioned?

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

I was at the horus heresy weekender and asked the guy making the space marine terrain about it and this was his plans on how it would be finished.

He does have plans to do some more city squares but its only one guy that does the terrain so it may take some time :(

I like full modularity, so I take a felt mat (in my case by Hotz) and then add terrain as I like.
Secret Weapon just made a kickstarter for boards as well, including city, ruins, scrapyard and someday in the future trenches.

i've gone ahead with the zone mortalis set up - i will no doubt digress into a night lords small 500pt army and currently with a krieg set up and the starting of a mechanicum force i'll have plenty of options to play.

I will in the end expand to the RoB but the game board at the HH weekender looked too cool to not play out at home and as i have a few lightnings to park in a fliers deck this is where i'll be investing for now
