So,
I just recently started trying out a new approach to my marines, and I was curious what you Dakkaites thought of it!
Here is the current list I run:
Pedro Kantor
2x 10 man Sternguard w/ 2x LC (depending) and 8x comb-melta/plasma for each squad. Combat squads each (going in the RB)
2x vindicators
1x LRC/R
1x 5 man TH/SS terminators
3x Tactical Squad w/ LC/PC/ML (depending) variants and plasma/melta's
1x Rhino
2x Razorback (1 w/ AC and 1 w/ HB)
1x ADL w/ Quad gun

I can swap a couple of things out, using 2x Preds with AC/HB's, remove a tactical for a 10x scout squad w/ sniper riles, remove the LR for a dev squad w/ 4x PC/ML, throw in a Chap or Termi Lib, or swap Pedro for Marneus etc. I have a massive amount of variation.
Sadly, I only have 1x Stormraven, therefor I rarely use it. Not until I can pick up 2x Stormtalons

I'm considering going heavy DP w/ the Sternguards, or trying to fit in some TFC's behind the ADL.

Thoughts? Recommendations?

Appreciated!

If you are going with pedro, I'd take minimal TAC squads seeing as the sternguard are scoring as well. For what you have suggested adding, things like the TFC or preds would be nice but you already have 3 heavy support, so are you intending to go 2FOC.
For the most part I think the army is a bit split. You have the 2 vindis and the terminators in the raider which are both aggressive, then you have 3 TAC squads and 2 sternguard on foot who will be at home which is sort of gunline. So keeping it in single FOC, I would look at some fast attack options. Something like MM attach bikes since at the moment you have a couple of lascannons (3 or 4?) but in reality not a huge amount of anti tank.
I'm really not a fan of razors with ACs, cost so much and they still die to a stiff breeze. Maybe just stick to run of the mill ones if you want them.

So If you drop 1 TAC sqaud you could get 2x2 MM attack bike squads. For the sternguard, you could chuck them in drop pods. Have a small one with combi meltas as a throwaway squad, then take another full one to come down later for objectives, combi weapons wouldn't be necessary for these guys just special ammunition.
For the land raider, you could just go with the vanilla one. People say its a bit mixed with the TL-LC sponsons, but seeing as you have just the one, I dont imagine you'll be jamming it down their throat first turn. So you can sit back for 2 turns getting 2 reliable lascannon hits a turn along with the vindis then move out to clean up with the terminators at the end. Helps with brining a bit of needed anti tank here, but firstly I'd look at FA choices for that.

If your attack is going too well, you have walked into an ambush

The easy way is always mined

I'd tend to agree with rahzephon.

I run a Pedro-Sternguard-Drop pod based list and try to maximize the bonus you get for taking Pedro.

My current list is as follows:

HQ: 175pts

Pedro Kantor

Elites: 905pts

1) 10 Man Sternguard Squad
5x Combi-flamers, 4x Combi-meltas, Drop Pod, Sgt with Combi-melta and power sword

2) 10 Man Sternguard Squad
5x Combi-flamers, 4x Combi-meltas, Drop Pod, Sgt with Combi-melta and power maul

3) 6 Man Sternguard Squad
2x LC, 2x Combi-Plasma, Drop Pod, Sgt w/ Combi-Flamer

Troops: 360pts

1) 10 Man Tactical Squad
Flamer, LC, Drop Pod, Sgt w/ out upgrades

2) 5 Man Scout Squad
3x Sniper, HB, Telion

Fast: 65pts

1) Lucius Pattern Drop Pod

Heavy: 415pts

1) Contemptor Mortis Dreadnought
2x Kheres Assault Cannons, CML

2) TFC

3) TFC

Fortifications: 85pts

1) ADL
Icarus Lascannon

Total for Army: 2000pts

So far I've been having good luck with it.

I have 5 pods, so 3 come in turn one.

I usually bring down the Contemptor and the two full Stern squads for a nasty alpha, then drop the other two empty (from tacticals and small stern) later in the game to serve as cover or roadblocks.

If I run up against a reserve army or an IG mob, I can throw away those same empty pods on turn 1 with the contemptor (and move him into cover, out of LOS of most of the enemy ect...) This gives my TFCs time to blow holes in the enemy formation for the following Full stern squads.

Telion and boys stay in the ADL, with Telion on the Icarus sniping characters or fliers.

The tacticals usually combat squad and the resulting combat squads are used to counter assault / screen TFCs

The small Sternguard squad is a nasty backfield camper, and can lay down the pain wherever its needed. They are often used to neutralize deep strikers or infiltrating units, and have repeatedly proven their worth in the past. Also they are scoring due to Pedro.

The contemptor is great for anti-infantry or anti-air, and being on the alpha lets him both draw some fire off the alpha strike Sterns and keep the skies clear while they do their dirty work (looking at you hell turkey).

I tend to alpha on a flank, combat squad the Sterns for maximum effect (Flamer/Melta), then hug cover and spew out volumes of special ammo fire to decimate one half of the enemies army on the turn they drop.

The TFCs then use the difficult terrain ammo to light up the squads within charge range of the Alpha Sterns to buy them another round of shooting, and the Small Stern Lascannons, combat squad Lascannon, and Telion on the icarus pop any tanks the Alpha-sterns couldn't get.

So far so good with this list

Hope that it helps you with yours, just remember if you're going to go with Pedro or any named character, get the most out of their special abilities.
