Hey guys I've got an old Death Guard force that I am bringing around to a 6th ed playable list. I'm looking to fill my fast slot with one of these guys but I'm not quite sure which yet. Likely I will run a single unit (obviously if it's the ally detachment) of 3 models.

Any thoughts why I should pick one over the other? Thanks!

Depends on the rest of your list.

They are both better than each other in different respects.

Beasts Pros:
3+ cover save for the Beasts in Area terrain.
Have Defensive Grenades.
Can get an improved Invulnerable Save.
Get more Attacks (not counting the odds of getting Grasping Psuedopods)
Can Deepstrike (not sure you'd ever want to though).
Always Poisoned Attacks.
Can be taken in units up to 9.
Elites choice doesn't compete with any other Nurgle units.

Beast Cons
Cost more than Nurgle Spawn.
Can suffer Instantly Death from S10.
Suffer from Daemonic Instability.
Can have their Invulnerable reduced.
Can't Sweeping Advance.
Can't Run.

Spawn Pros:
Cost less than Beasts
T6.
Fearless.
Can Sweeping Advance.
Can Run.
Spawn are Fast Attack so are a Scoring unit in the Scouring. But also give your opponent a victory point (although 5 T6 Spawn are not easy to kill for anyone).

Spawn Cons:
Random ability can be useless.
No armour save most the time.
Can only be taking in units of 5.
Compete with Heldrakes for the Fast Attack section.

I probably missed something but this is the jist of it.

I take 5 spawn to go with Typhus. Works by sling shotting him up the field (in a way)
