I have been wondering about Chaos Marine horns lately. Ive tried to look up the anwser, but no luck so far on a definitive verdict. So I turn to dakkadakka. What material is used to make the horns on Chaos Marine helmets and armour? Ahriman might be the best/well known example of these kinds of horns:
Spoiler:

Was there ever a definitive anwser, or is it left open for interpretation? If so I would like to hear your views on this subject. So far from discussing it with my gaming group we have come up with mutation (to some extent possible but seems unlikely with the symmetry), some kind of metal (ceramite?), deliberate growing/nurturing from organic material or even bone grown with warp influence. So what do you think or prefer to imagine?

Sorry for my spelling. I'm not a native speaker and a dyslexic.

I think, given that it is Chaos we're talking about, all of those possibilities are probably true. (There are so many 'horny Marines' that you could find examples of all of them.)

There are examples of helmets with protrusions like that in the fluff. The tusked helmets of chaos terminators, for example, are well documented, although I don't recall ever reading what material they were made out of. One assumes metal.

In any event, hope that helps.

Styrofoam obviously.

Moose antler like.

Chaos marines looses them every winter, and sometimes during mating season fights. Luckily, they regrow every year.

on the forum. Obviously

Finecast. It's a naturally occurring resource in the warp, you know.

Seriously though, it's either bone, whatever material powered armor is made out of or whatever demonic alloy they use in the warp.

I don't think there is a definite answer.

Is the guy possessed/mutated? Bone.

Too much time in the warp? Something akin to wraithbone.

Sorcerer / Champion? Perhaps the bones of some great beast as a trophy or which amplifies sorcery.

This is pretty much what I've always thought.

They describe it in one of the older chaos codexes, under the flavor text for chaos terminators. It is a composite of bone and the ceremite terminator armor, and is suggested to be growing out of the head of the warrior inside the armor.

Thanks for all the anwsers so far, they have been informative and funny . It seems there is a general idea of what they are.

I can understand why that bit is not returning in the newer codexes, seems to be a strange explanation with the symmetry in mind.

Many varieties of Daemons have horns, so it seems reasonable that some of them could be trophies taken from particularly nasty Daemons that the Marine has vanquished. After all, Chaos's second favorite pastime (after killing Imperials) is killing each other.

Could also depend on alignment?

> Khorne horns are made of the crushed and repurposed bones (skulls?) of their vanquished enemies.

>Tzeentch horns are made of pure warp/magic willed into existance to adorn the sorcerors armour.

>Nurgle horns are mutated from the marine itself.

>Slaanesh horns are just large, pulsating, fleshy..."Protrusions"
