I did a blog on this if you want more insight on how it comes to be (http://40kunorthodoxy.blogspot.com/2013/06/6th-edition-tau-flyers-how-to-make-them.html) , but the final list is below:

274pts 3 Broadsides (All three with High Yield Missile Pods and TL Plasma, 3 x Seeker Missiles, 2 x Velocity Tracker)

60pts 10 kroot Broadside Wrap
140pts 10 Kroot + 1 Hound + 3 krootox
140pts 10 Kroot + 1 Hound + 3 krootox
54pts 6 Fire Warriors
54pts 6 Fire Warriors
153pts 3 Crisis Suits (4 Shield Drones, 2 Gun Drones, Shas'Vre w/ Vectored Retro Thrusters, 2 Fusion Blasters each)
74pts Ethereal (Warlord, 2 Marker Drones)
137pts Commander (Command and Control Node, Drone Controller, Onager Gauntlet, 2 x Markerdrones)
172pts 2 Bodyguard XV8's (each with 2 Plasma Rifles, 4x Markerdrones)
153pts Razorshark Strike Fighter (Missile Pod, Decoy Launcher)
168pts Sun Shark Bomber (TL Missile upgrade, Decoy Launcher)
168pts Sun Shark Bomber (TL Missile upgrade, Decoy Launcher)

Points: 2000
Kill Points: 15-17
Models: 98

My Biggest QUESTION here when i wrote it was: TWO Bombers or TWO Fighters? The combination of the Planes itself was a little bit conflicting. I really wrestled with that issue but ultimately the Bombers seemed better in this list.

Thoughts on that part in particular would be interesting.

most people prefer bombers as it can fire at multiple enemies using the pulse bomb and the other weapons

That was definitely my thinking too. Very very adjustable to the threat or situation. And once air dominance is established? Yahoo!!!

They do seem like they would be very very effective against ground AND air targets. My thinking with them was that they pump out plenty of damage and the unreliability of their Bombs while annoying, doesn't detract enough not to want them. Ive seen mostly fighters used which is interesting on its own, but only ever one flyer. When I look at the points difference I think hmm...

No Barracudas

Why?

cause it be fun, and not everyone wants to buy expesive forgeworld models and the extra book.

also remember that your fliers are not going to have great air superiority, a razorshark will lose to a vendetta everytime. Use the Tau's abundance of anti-air to clear the airspace, and then rain ion and pulse on them

Aircraft are fun. A little odd to use sometimes, but fun.

I dislike the use of ForgeWorld models in tournies and otherwise; and I'm not about to spend the money there. So I personally wouldn't consider using them. Also, not worth recommending them because MOST people don't own any Barracudas, let alone three.

Also: Barracudas are lighter armor. So you're making an enormous commitment there in comparison.

That's the whole point of recommendations, so people know what to buy. If you're going to use flyers with Tau you buy Barracudas. Buying the codex ones when you could buy Barracudas instead is just throwing away your money.

Also: Barracudas are super points heavy and have lighter armor.

Might want to get IA3 then. Barracudas are cheaper than the codex flyers and have AV 11/11/10 (though only 2 HP), with a 3+ jink save if you buy the mandatory disruption pod.
