Good evening,

I am a Ravenwing player and I want to include more land speeders in my army besides just having bikes. So I was wondering what if you deep strike and or out flank a set of land speeders with Sammual on Sableclaw with a land speeder Vengeance? Is this even feasible due to the high point cost and low armor of the speeders with low Hull Points? Would the fire power that you can bare be worth the point sink?

I used to run a greenwing army with razorbacks, preds, whirlwinds and bolter armed speeders.. I went virtually undefeated with this list and the funny thing was it was the bolter armed speeders that won the majority of the games. With the jink save, I think it is still viable. The only weakness is the enemy going first....

I deep strike dual heavy flamer speeders. They are very cheap and pose a major threat to objective campers late game. People are reluctant to shoot at them because there are so many other priority targets and they can put a lot of wounds on everything up to Terminator armour. Other than that I run Typhoons with heavy bolters. This adds some much needed long ranged firepower to the army.

edit: to remove point value.

I can also testify as the the massive usefulness of deep-striking dual heavy flamer landspeeders... although for my opponents they tend to become a priority target once they've seen what they can do!

All I can say is: If you're not DSing (which is probably a good idea), and you're not going first, keep them out of sight as much as possible. Land Speeders are one of the best targets for First Blood out there!

I enjoy the tornado pattern land speeder, but recently was thinking on getting some dark shrouds, they look like a good sizable amount of help.

What's your thoughts on the dark shroud and the vengeance land speeders aswell?

I would sign this contract but I already ate the potato

I am running 3 Land Speeder Typhoons with just a Heavy Bolter. I actually just leave them in my backfield flitting back and forth using them as a “Fire Brigade” or to supplement my Long Fangs. About the only issue I ever has if AV13/14, but that is what the Long Fang Las-Cannons are for.

So far they have done very well. I have only lost all of them in a couple of games.

The shroud is a massive bonus for typhoons. 4+ cover makes them surprisingly durable. Deep strike the Heavy flamer ones honestly its a good idea. Read hedgehogs battle reports if you have any doubts about the veracity of this tactic.

The other one I have seen is giving each a Heavy Flamer and a Multi-Melta on a Vulcan List.

Thanks

At some point I also intend to try a double multi-melta landspeeder deep-striking - it's got a bit more range as protection against a bad scatter, but it's also significantly more expensive. However it does have the potential to kill seriously murderise enemy tanks!

Double melta speeders are better starting on the board IMO. 2 S8 weapons with 36" threat range is too good to pass up first turn. Bike armies need to kill armour before it decimates so its hard to deepstirke any anti tank assets. When you gonna get round to trying RW Hedgehog, they are much better honest

Multimeltas are only 24" range, with a true threat radius of just 12".

And I agree that Ravenwing are a better biker force, but they're also Ravenwing, not White Scars

Depends on what the MM are targeting. There are plenty of things in the game that don't like STR 8 AP 1 straight up.

Hey.. I always take one doubled up mm land speeder, hide it on first turn and with some concentrated bolter fire, it can give you first blood each game.

The bike can move 12" then it's 24" in total giving a threat range of 36". I play White Scars too, just using the RW rules set.

Ah, I see your point about the 36" threat range once you include movement. I'll get round to putting one of them together at some point.
