Hi guys - I have been through the various sections in the rule book but just can't be sure about something - can anyone clear it up for me please? It is not going to be the easiest to explain without diagrams but bear with me

Ok so hypothetical situation is the in a unit of 10 dire avengers huddled in ruin and totally out of line of sight from a sm tact squad, except for the dire avenger exarch who the sm missile launcher can see as he is right at the back of the unit. If a frag missile gets shot and hits the exarch - how exactly are the wounds allocated? The way I am reading it is that the avengers will be removed from the front of the unit, even though they are totally out if line sight of the firing unit (all getting a 4+ cover save). Is this right?

Because the blast special rule says that it's fine if models are hit by the template that are out of range or sight. However it then says that when you know how many models, allocate them as you would in a normal shooting attack. But when allocating in a normal attack you could only kill ones you can see, so was not sure if the template did 3 wounds in the unit - would they all have to be taken just on the visible exarch?

If someone could explain this to me I would be eternally grateful

This was FAQed. Models that you can't see can be wounded by blast weapons. It's perfectly fine if the blast weapon scatters wildly and hits enemies you weren't even aiming for, btw.

The rulebook FAQ tells you not only can you allocate wounds from blasts to models out of LOS, it also tells you to allocate to the closest model first. With normal weapons you would allocated you the nearest visible model. So if you're shooting blasts and non-blasts you may have to allocate to different models.

There is however some debate if the target unit is completely out of LOS. But your situation does not get into that.

IMO it is rather clear what GW intends for Blast weapons. Unfortunately they have not quite spelled it out correctly.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
