SOB vs Necrons. 1,000 pts. (First battle report and first battle using 6th, having played since 3rd and Necron player is his first game, so have some leniency.)

SOB:
St. Celestine
Cannoness with command squad x3 heavy bolters

x2 SOB squad 17 in each squad. One squad has rhino.
x1 Seraphim 6 in squad.
x2 Excorcists
x1 tech priestess (house rule for fluff.)

Necrons:
Nemsor
Lord

x1 squad warriors
x1 immortals
x1 wraiths with 3
x1 tomb spider with scarabs
x1 annihilation barge
x1 Triarch Stalker

Cannoness Helena heard the first report of movement near the secluded shrine of St. Thekla of Tarris VII and sent a small force to investigate. The word "Necron" was whispered throughout the convent as the sisters strapped on their armor and readied their weapons and vehicles. Cannoness Helena had faced the Necrons before and silently prayed that it was not true. She did not want Xenos filth on her world and did not wish to face their heretical weapons. But if what the scouts reported was true, then it was a duty and pleasure to destroy the enemy of the Imperium. She permitted herself a smile when she thought of xenos scum dying under the holy flames of the Sisterhood.
St. Augustina, the survivor of Phellius III, was with them and led the way with her trusted cohort of Serephim veterans.
When the armored column of rhinos arrived at the shrine, they found the ancient ruins crawling with the mechanical xenos. Their glowing eyes could be seen in the gloom of the early morning. St. Augustina, without a word, pointed her sword toward the approaching Necrons and everyone took their positions. Helena looked beside her at her trusted advisers, Sister Juliana of the Diologus Order and Sister Placidia of the Hospitilars. The strange and binary chattering Priestess of Mars took her position by the Excorcists. When the the Sisterhood had demanded only female Tech Priests, the Mechanicum did not understand why the gender would be important. Filthy heretics.

TURN 1 Necrons. Night.
Necrons won initiative. (Xenos scum.)

The Necrons move up but due to the darkness, they don't do any shooting.

Turn 1 Sisters. Night.
Likewise, move up, but no shooting. Move the rhino to make cover for my Excocists against the disgusting spider walker abomination. Squad Alpha and HQ take cover.

Turn 2 Necrons. Day
The xenos filth deepstrike the wraiths but they deviate back and towards the edge, but end up safe and partially behind cover. The Barge moves up and shoots SOB squad Bravo, killing four sisters whose names shall be carved on the walls of the shrine of remembrance.

Turn 2 Sisters.
The excorcists launch vollies of holy missiles that rain death down on the Warrior squad and the Wraiths, killing one Wraith and five warriors. (Only one was to get back up.) The heavy bolters from the HQ Squad also fire at the warriors, permanently killing one of them.

Turn 3 Necrons.
The Wraiths move up, covering the barge. The barge blasts the sister squad again, killing a few more. Their superior rallies them with a call for faith in the Emperor and stay in the fight. The warriors and sisters continue to take shots at each other from behind cover. The Triarch Stalker shoots and kills the rhino which is turned into a smoking wreck.

Turn 4 Sisters.
The Excocists fire, killing another wraith. (rolled low for missile count.) The squad rolls horribly and fails to kill the other one. The heavy bolters from the HQ squad continue to fire from behind cover, out ranging the necrons and killing two more of them. Wary of the scarabs coming up on their left, they hold position with flammers and heavy flammers ready to purge. St. Augustina with her Seraphim move to the destroyed rhino for cover as they get closer to the Wraiths and barge.

Turn 5 Necrons
The barge fires, destroying the Excorcist, 'Divine Punishment' and the Wraith charges up and destroys the other Excorcist 'Eternal Torment.' The Stalker fires at my command squad and wounds two of the heavy bolters, but only one dies due to the administrations of Sister Placidia of the Hospitilars.

Turn 5 Sisters.
Cannoness Helena saw the destruction of her Excocists and ordered her sisters to smite the Xenos with their holy vengeance. Squad Bravo fire at the Wraith, only inflicting one wound. St. Augustina charges with her bodyguard and destroy the barge with a hail of crack grenades. The HQ squad continue to blast away with the heavy bolters and kill a few more warriors.

Turn 6 Necrons.
The Stalker fires at the HQ squad but miraculously fails to hit. The Necron warriors also fail to kill any sisters as they march forward behind the cover of the Stalker. The remaining Wraith ignores the Tech Priestess who was more fascinated at the xenos tech than the actual battle and charges the HQ squad. Ever vigilant, the heavy bolter sisters fire and strike down the Wraith and watch as it skids to a stop in the dirt in front of them, twitching and smoking.

Turn 6 Sisters
HQ and Alpha move forward and successfully gain their act of Faith that lets them re-roll 1's. Which is very fortunate because I fire out 15 shots and 10 of them are 1's! (Seriously, what's the mathematical probability of that?) Holy Blessed Emperor, glad I had that act of faith because I re-rolled and did much much better, slaughtering the remaining warriors and inflict a wound on his warlord. St. Augustina charges forward and rip into the immortals. Her Seraphim bodyguard blast the Immortals and leave the Necron Lord alive. He swings but his unholy staff deflects off her armor and in turn, she slices his disgusting vertebrae and cuts him in half. As his top half crawls away St. Agustina steps on his back and plunges his sword into his metal skull. (he lost cc, failed his moral save and she caught up and slaughtered him.)
(Sorry about this last picture. In the excitement I forgot to take more pictures, so I tried to summarize it in visual form...or something like that.)

It was a tie. Necrons killed a rhino and two excocists with first blood. Total of 4. Sisters killed Warriors, Wraiths, Immortals and Lord. 4 4 to 4.

Cannoness Helena watched the xenos machines retreat from the sacred shrine and then ordered her Sisters to withdraw to rearm. As she rode in the rhino on the way back to the convent, she consulted with St. Augustina on how best to proceed with what would most likely be a protracted struggle.

Okay, as my first battle in over ten years, I had a blast. We had to keep referencing our rules and such and we probably did some things wrong, but we had a great deal of fun so we did something right.

St. Celestine (Augustina) was the hero of the game for the Sisters. Took out a barge, a squad of immortals and the Necron Lord. I didn't expect them to do nearly that good. The Excorcists did good until they got destroyed and I really liked the heavy bolters. They rocked every turn. For the Necrons, that barge was insane with its arching super gun and those wraiths...I just don't ever want to face a Wraith spam list. Ever.

It was a fun game. You should have one though. But after all, it was just a learning experience.
Nice fluff btw!

Nice last picture, hah. I've never read a SoB report before, so this was pretty interesting. Did you freehand that angel on the back of the Rhino? That looks absurdly good.

Speaking of the Rhino, do Sisters not have their own transports? And is an Act of Faith just basically a psyker ability?

In any event, thanks for sharing! Great battle, I actually thought you had it in your pocket.

Great summary on the last pic.
Thanks for the pics and write-up.

It's not about the game.
It's about the Clan.

Thanks, Yes, I love free hand stuff and gave my Sisters an Byzantine icon look to their vehicles. Sisters use rhinos, but they also have an upgraded rhino called a repressor that has heavier armor, more firing ports and a heavy flammer. There's also the immolator, again based on the rhino chasis.

Act of faith isn't a psyker ability, it's a unique thing to the sisters. It's their fanatic faith in the emperor that grants them powers. Each unit has an act of faith that if they roll good, they can use. For example: the heavy weapon squads called retributers can make their shots count as rending.

I wish more battle reports weaved in a narrative like that. Excellent write up. Now I want to see a 2000pt battle.

While they are singing "what a friend we have in the greater good", we are bringing the pain!

on the forum. Obviously

You can't permanently kill necrons with weapons; the only way to deny their RP is to kill everything in the squad or make them run.

I do have 2000 points of Sisters, but they get less effective at 2,000. But I'm thinking of adding a bastion. That should help.

I may be wrong but i am pretty sure if you take a squad of sisters that's more than 10 models you don't get the option to take the rhino.

You're incorrect about this for the same reason that the BSS can take an Immolator as a DT. Even its starting size of 10 is larger than the Immo's transport capacity, yet it is still a valid option for them to take. If/when during the course of battle that the BSS' squad size gets reduced to at or below either a Rhino or Immo's transport capacity, then at that time they could embark upon it.

No I meant that I thought It was stated as a rule in their mini codex that you can only buy a rhino for them if the squad is 10 or less models. I know that normally the size of the unit has no baring on if it can get a transport but every time i look at sisters of battle squads on games workshops home page because i am thinking of starting them it gives there stats and some info about their rules aand that is what it states.

I see. Well the entry on the GW webpage is incorrect. The BSS entry in the WD codex on page 89 pertaining to Dedicated Transports says:
WD C:SoB wrote:The squad can select any dedicated transport (see below).
Also on that page, page 89 for those of you keeping track at home, are the two non-FW Dedicated Transports available to most SoB units and they are the Rhino and the Immolator.

IIRC C:WH, the previous tome containing the SoB info, did have such restrictions on whether or not the squad could purchase a Rhino at >10 models, but I don't honestly remember and don't really feel like checking now. However, that most certainly is not true for the current incarnation of the SoB Codex. It has no such restrictions. I wouldn't trust stats/rules on the GW website, outside of the FAQs, etc., further than I could throw them.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Case in point:
On GW's site for Seraphim, it still has them listed as I4 and that their Bolt Pistols count as Twin-linked. This is blatantly false (now) and is no longer correct.

(shrugs) They had a rhino. I also had a female tech priest. Maybe the rhino was for the HQ squad. If there was a rule stating the squad had to be less than 10, I'd say, "show me the codex where it says that." (the joke being that the codex is unavailable.) But if there actually is a rule about that, then I'll have to rethink the rhino.

I think you may have misread or misunderstood what I wrote. You were fine taking a Rhino for a squad of 17 Battle Sisters. There is no wording in the WD SoB Codex to restrict, based off squad size, the allowance of a squad taking a DT.
