Drone without a Controller






hey guys so i fought a battle today to test out the new pathfinder wargear and ended up having a really enjoyable game,
these were the lists;

i know this isnt a very synergistic army but i recently bought the new pathfinder kit and wanted to try out everything in it, and realistically the recon drone did nothing as i had no outflankers, and didnt deep strike this turn. But hey it looks cool.

First turn:grey knights


deployment
The grey knights placed their objective on the bottom floor of a large ruined building near a corner and parked the five man dark angels squad by it in their rhino, while the terminators with the librarian went in the land raider as far forward as they could on the left of his deployment. The bike squad with sammuel in it deployed right beside, and the knights beside them. the purgation squad took up his right flank with the lascannon dread supporting. He then placed his pysfleman dread in some woods behind the bikes, he reserved a dreadnought with multi melta to deep strike.

I decided to try something different as i usually deep strike my crisis commander team, and crisis team (the fact that i didnt made my recon drone completely usless, but hey worth a shot), as it was i placed my commanders unit on the extreme left flank across from the land raider. My seven man pathfinder team was placed on the second and third floor of another burnt out building close behind the commander with their devilfish hidden behind the building along with the two eight man pathfinder teams to conduct a flanking. taking up the center was my riptide with the rail rifle pathfinders in front of it. on a wierd temple looking platform near the right of my deployment was my broadside team, and in front of that were my ion rifle pathfinders. i placed my objective on the edge of this peice of terrain six inches from my board edge and reserved my 12 man fire warrior team. my burst cannon suits deployed to the right of the broadsides. darkstrider joins the rail rifle pathfinders

infiltrators
grey knights infiltrated his vindicare assasin in another large ruined building in front of the commanders unit.

scout moves
Grey knights won the roll of and scouted all his ravenwing straight up the board.

Tau scouted the rail rifle pathfinders into a small ruins.

Seizing: TAU SIEZED!! (even though this was a bad descision and i rolled as i was saying this is going to bite me, becasue his bikes could then charge)


Tau turn one
First things first, riptide nova charges and gives himself a 3+ invul, far left devilfish moves twelve straight up, and the other squad of fire warriors stay hidden. the command squad in an astounding display of tactical ineptitude jumps into the ruins by the assasin and closer to the land raider and terminators.
The shooting phase kicked off with the Fusion suits shooting the six man bike squad killing two and missing with all but one marker light, which the seven man pathfinders use to up their ballistic skill and score 6 hits. the riptide uses two to ignore cover, scatters, and kills only one. broadsides use two marker lights to increase their ballistic skill by two and kill another one before realising they cannot hurt the AV 14 speeder. so the rail rifle pathfinders shoot at the ravenwing nights killing all but the sgt and scoring three marker hits. the ion pathfinders shoot at the remaining knight using marker lights and kill him, First blood to tau. burst cannon crisis suits shoot three plasma at the attack bike but only manage to put one wound on it.
In the assault phase everything shuffles around a bit.

Grey knights turn one
Samuel and the remaining sgt speed past the rail pathfinders towards the riptide, and so does the attack bike. the purgation squad moves up behind another smaller ruins and disembarks. The land raider redeemer moves up and disembarked his terminator squad into the ruined building with my commander. He also moves up his lascannon dreadnought.
In his shooting phase he casts astral aim with the purgation squad and lights up my rail totting pathfinders killing three, tries to cast smite on my command squad which i deny, and then shoots with the terminators and vindicare assassin managing to kill one mesley sheild drone his lascannon dread shoots at my broadsides but misses. Samuel and biker sgt shoot at the riptide with no effect. The attack bike shoots at the rail rifle pathfinders wounding once but i make the cover save. The land raider reedemer shoots everything at the devilfish managing to explode it and kill three fire warriors. The razorback kills two of the ion pathfinders, he forgets to shoot his psyfelman dread.
In the Assault phase i was excited to try out darkstriders neat consolidation trick matched with the grav inhibitor drone, rolled well with the drone and he would lose three inches on charge, he declared i overwatched with no effect, and rolled to consolidat....TWO inches!!! he managed to get a four inch charge and catch them this is where they stay locked till my second turn where he runs them down after killing one and me failing morale. his terminators and vindicare both assault my command squad killing everyone but my commander and a marker drone who bound away.

Tau turn two
My fire warriors come in and claim the objective. The commander regroups. and the riptide nova charges to double tap his fusion plasters. burst cannon suits move up and the eight man fire warrior squad disembarks to pour on the pulse round into the terminators. The pathfinders from the exploded fish try to sneak through the forest hoping the land raider will forget about them (which absolutley does not work!! as you will see)
In the shooting phase my seven pathfinders light up samuel and the sht, but only manage three marker light hits, which should be enough for my commander to hit with, making it so his snap shots hit on three's...and i roll double two's , well i guess those double tapping fusion blasters would have to shoot the damn speeder. which the riptide does and explodes it earning slay the war lord and also killing the sgt (and as as a side note maybe some one can clear this up for me, but i didnt think he could even join a land speeder to a unit, no matter if it is his warlord, but he was making look out sir! rolls for it. either way i went with it, but can someone let me know if it is legal?). the broadsides and ion pathfinders combined killed all but one of the purgation squad as he was not visible to any of them or the burst cannon suits. The twelve and eight man fire warriors combine to kill three terminators.
Assault phase came and everything that could jumped back away from the termies, and the attack bike finished of the pathfinders and darkstrider running them down like the dirty unbelivers they are.


Grey knights turn two
His multi melta dread comes on deapstriking with out chance of scatter from the attack bike right in front of the riptide..who promptly intercepts with its fusions AND BLOWS IT THE FETH UP did allitle dance at this one. his termies move up. his land raider not fooled by my sneaky fire warrior tricks ominously turns to face them. the rest stay static.
He fails astal aim with the lone psycannon guy, hencforth known as jimmy, and casts smite on the commander taking two wounds off. He then proceeds to use the combined fire power of the razor back, termies, and psyfelman dread to take the remaining two and kill the marker drone, grey knights get slay the warlord. his lascannon dread shoots at the riptide but doesnt do anything. and the vindicare assassin shoots a shield breaker shot at the big guy as well but i make my invul save. his land raider unleashes a torrent of death into my poor fire warriors killing them all.
Assults...There are none, he killed my commander, its all about small victories

Tau turn three
I attempt to overcharge my shield but fail and fail my FNP causing a wound. i then start a slow push across the board moving everything accept the broadsides and pathfinders up. the burst cannon suits shuffle across to get in range of the terminators.
Shooting goes very well as i manage to kill all but the librarian and one termie with the riptides blast and fusions, i finish of the squad with the suits. my broadsides kill the lascannon dread, while my pathfinders put a hull point on the razorback.
Assaults everything jumps forward.


Grey knights turn three
His wierd crazy justicar gets up and tries moves towards the riptide hoping to force sword him to death. he makes a general retread back towards his deployment zone trying to consolidate his objective, except for jimmy, he stays put.
In his shooting he gets rid of three drones from the burst suits with jimmy, and then he kills a suit and two more drones with the physyfelman dread. his land raider shoots into the riptide causing no wounds and his vindicare shoots at my recon drone totting devilfish with a turbo penetrator, falling one point short of a glance.
His assault consists of the crazy justicar charging my riptide and getting overwatched by the two remaing suits and riptide himself, who hits with his fusion, and one accelerator round, there buy knocking him down again.

Tau turn four
I fail my nova charge and put another would on the riptide, everything else continues to push forward, this time everything but the seven pathfinders and twelve fire warriors advance, the recon drone disembarks for some action. The eight fire warriors embark and move twelve inches towards the enemy objective.
I shoot my seven pathfinders at the vindicare assasin and score with five marker lights, which the fire warriors, devilfish, and recon drone use to enact retribution on his poor soul. The broadsides snap shoot and kill the razorback, and the ion cannon pathfinders leave the pysfelman dread with one hull point. fire warriors fish flat outs.
Assault see's my units jumping forward again

grey knights turn four
The justicar gets up and moves towards the 12 fire warriors holding my objective, and his psyfelman dread moves next to his marines in the rhino. jimmy stays put.
His shooting see's one would put on the crisis suits, and the pysfelman dread kills it and wounds the last remaining suit. the landraider fires everything at the riptide and causes one wound again. jimmy shoots but misses three shots and fails to hurt the devilfish. the rhino and squad inside fail to take the last wound of the crisis suit.
His wades through overwatch and pounds my fire warriors causing them to flee and abandon the objective.

Tau turn five
My fire warrior devil fish moves up and disembarks my fire warriors right near the dark angels rhino, everything again moves up except for the seven pathfinders. the devilfish and recon drone home in on the extreme annoyance that is an unkillable justicar who is also a troop. with only one wound left i dont risk nova charging my riptide.
In my shooting phase the seven pathfinders light up the justicar and i kill him with none other than the recon drone!!!! the riptide throws his template on the side of the rhino hitting both it and the remaining dread taking the last hull point off, and failing to hurt the rhino, it the fusion blaster that explodes it. The broadsides, ion pathfinders, and devilfish finish off the five marines. and i decide to take the objective by running my eight fire warriors, before a friend of ours says hey why not shoot jimmy. which i do, and kill him

Deep Fryer of Mount Doom

Nice report. One piece of advice I'd give is to put the points total for the game in the subject as I don't think I caught it anywhere in the report.

Nice battle report. I know you tabled him but how would you say you liked the list? Are the devil fish pulling their weight? Are that many pathfinders worth taking? Do you think 6 fusion guns in one team is overkill or do you need that to reliably kill tanks?

Didn't add it up or anything but it looks to be about a 1750pt game.

I am pretty sure if Sammy is in his AV14 speeder option, he is a vehicle and cant join a unit. Otherwise, hes in his jetbike and can join a unit.

honestly in the local shop there are alot of squadrons, such as basilisks, or alot of tyranids filled with monsters and thee 6 fusions with tank hunter or monster hunter make a huge difference.
and like i was saying the list was fun, there were to many pathfinders i ended up wasting marker lights, but in another game i had before that the rail finders killed a whole unit of chaos bikers themselves, ion rifles are over rated.
the devil fish are a mixed bag, their expensive and its a gamble i usually put them away from the bulk of my army as a lure with the warriors out and then turbo away when they get close or launch a counter assault on a weak objective
