Hey,

New to the forum.
Come from the board game side of things.
I'd like to get into war gaming but I'm having trouble finding a good fit for me.
I don't want something too complicated and hard to get into.

I do have a few Dust Tactics things that I'm hoping to get into just have to find some other people to play with in the area.
I play board games more often and Super Dungeon Explore, Small World and Mice & Mystics are my go-to at the moment.

Eager to get Myth and Kingdom Death: Monster.

Just finished my first painted miniature, hoping to get into painting more often but I find myself stuck and looking for tutorials quite often.

There's a bit about me.

Video Games, Board Games and Anime are the three pillars that make me who I am.

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

Thanks!

Any suggestions to a simple war game?
I've been looking into Relic Knights and Anima Tactics.

I need something that is more about strategy rather than building your custom army.
I like to focus on strategy more.

Hi and welcome!

What kind of style do you like? Scifi, fantasy, historical, alt history?

I like 40k and Bolt Action, we usually just use simplified rules or quick start rules which may be better to ease into wargaming with.

Would definitely had to go with Fantasy as first choice. I do have a bunch of Dust Warfare stuff though.

Preferably with smaller unit counts.

What genre do you like? historical (WWII, ancients, etc), fantasy, sci fi?

If you just like board games, check through the posts in this Board Game Sub Forum

Maybe Warhammer Fantasy, you could use Ogre Kingdoms so you would have a low model count, if your looking for a skirmish game you could try Mordheim, sorry I dont know many other fantasy games with low unit counts.

Dust Warfare stuff is pretty cool, though I dont know anyone that plays it personally. If you have other people in your area that play it might be a good start.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.

So I've been browsing around a bit and I've stumbled upon Freeblades.
Anyone have any experience as far as that one goes?

Another general questions.
How viable are starter sets? I know different games have their own quirks but in general are they a good way to start off, perhaps play a few games and feel like you're getting something out of it.
Some of the starter sets are about $30 and I'm willing to pay that much to give some systems a try but I'm just not sure if I'll get anything meaningful out of these.

Some examples would be.
Freeblades like I mentiond, Infinity, Hoards, Warmachines, Anima Tactics, Relic Knights etc.

Thanks!

Sorry if this thread is too old to answer, but a friend sent me here seeing an unanswered question.

I am obviously biased, Nakiro, but the starter sets for Freeblades were very carefully balanced. I'd take anyone of them into a game, and I'd take any one of them into a game where the other player had 150 gold to spend anyway they chose.
Now, at 150 gold there are not so many options, so that's fairly easy to say. Its the lowest gold level at which we recommend a game.

We have a forum for all your questions and Freeblades needs at dgsgames.com
