I've just made this Space Marine list, going for a fastish bike/drop/stuff type list, not too sure on wargear of most stuff, and one or two units not sure if they really fit/if I need something else more.

HQ:
Captain- 195
(Bike, Artificer Armour, Storm Shield, Thunder Hammer)

Elite:
Dreadnought- 140
(Multi-Melta, Drop Pod)

Dreadnought- 170
(Assault Cannon, Heavy Flamer, Drop Pod w/ Locator Beacon)

Troops:
Space Marine Bike Squad- 230
(+2 Bikers, 2x Meltagun, Sgt w/ MB, Power Weapon, Attack Bike w/ Multi-Melta)

Space Marine Bike Squad 175
(2x Plasma, Sgt w/ MB, Combi-plasma, Attack Bike w/Heavy Bolter)

Space Marine Bike Squad 175
(2x Plasma, Sgt w/ MB, Combi-plasma, Attack Bike w/Heavy Bolter)

Fast:
Stormtalon Gunship- 125
(Skyhammer ML)

Stormtalon Gunship- 125
(Skyhammer ML)

Vanguard Vet Squad 185
(Sgt w/MB, Thunder Hammer, squad w/ 2x PW, 2x MB)

Heavy:
Vindicator 115

Vindicator 115

Ok, so idea is Captain and larger bike squad go do something courageous, probably involving dyeing without actually achieving anything. Two Plasma squads will probably go down one or both flanks to try and do some serious damage to something decent. Storm Talons i'm hoping will go after flyer type things (not sure if i've armed them correctly) Vangaurd will DS by locator beacon hopefully (I assume they still get to assault when coming down on locator beacon?) so that drop pod first turn positioning is important.

Not going for anything ultra competitive with this, just a nice idea as i'm trying to come up with a new army idea.

Not bad list overall. A few things I would change though:

With a 2+ armour the SS is less needed these days on the Captain. I'd suggest power fist and lighting claw. That way you have have the choice to go at Initiative against 3+, or worse saves if you want to and you get +1 attack with either weapon.

I'd consider making both Dreads MM+ HF or ideally Ironclads with HF. You need shock and awe with that drop. You have enough assault cannons from the Talons. Particularly if you take a 3rd.

What the hell are the footslogging vanguard vets all about? How on earth are you expecting to achieve anything with them? These are 185 wasted points that could be another talon and some more bikers or even predator.

Double Vindicator is good too. So I'd optimise the Captain keep most of it largely the same and dump the frankly bizarre VGV squad.

Also how are you DSing the VGVs with no jump packs?

I completely forgot Vets need upgrading to take jump packs. Ops. Did think they were more expensive.

Thanks for the advice.

If they were 125pts with jump packs they would be auto-include. Upping that to 175 with a 2d6 scatter (your opponent will move away from the beacon pod) for +1 attack Assault marines makes them terribad.

Yeah.

If I take out the Vets, upgrade the Dreads to Ironclads with Heavy Flamers I have 140 points left.
I'd quite like a 3rd drop pod really, get two Dreads down on turn one, and slightly more right in the enemies face to tempt a bit of shooting away from the bikes.
I'm tempted to add in a Thunderfire Cannon with a drop pod, obviously just deploy the Thunderfire, but then can bring down two drop pods in turn one.

That or more bikes. Wouldn't really want a third Stormtalon I don't think.

Why not a bare bones 3rd DP dread? Only 5 point more and gives you another in your face unit.

However the TFC does add more Horde control which is a relative weakness of the list. So yeah TFC seems the best bet.
