I've been using this list casually in a couple games and had fun with it so I've been looking at adding on to it to move into higher point games.

HQ - Lord Commissar

Troops - Vet Squad 3x Plasma, Chimera

Troops - Vet Squad 3x Melta, Chimera

Troops - PCS 4x Flamer
PIS Flamer, Autocannon

Heavy - Vanquisher w/ Lascannon

This comes out to about 980 points. So what would y'all say would best to change and/or add to move this up to a 1500 point list? I've mostly come across MEQ if that helps.

I would suggest to put the PCS in a chimera and add leman russes, maybe adding a vanquisher to one of the existing squadron and a punisher for pure anti infantry.

Despite all that I recommend a adl+quadgun for your guards to hide in.

We don't have that many flyers at my FLGS for now. Also, I found that lootas do quite a good job vs most flyers since Bs1 is only one under BS2.

Yeah i havent come across many flyers yet. I had a feeling that an ADL would be needed

Dont really think there is an answer to any of those lists to be honest unless you spam vendettas and vultures that of which is not mech and is aircav. Generally a Mech list is spammed chimers(that try to ignore the flyers as best as possible) and usually has 2 vendettas as support with artillery support or if you want russes you can use them instead. So with that said mech does not have an answer to any of those lists without changing the theme or general idea of the list.

Also I wouldn't even suggest hydras in a mech list because they are actually very poor against air units as they dont have interceptor and will actually be shot at by the flyer before they can try to shoot it down.

Probably the best thing to do if i kept it mech then would to be to drop the platoon and replace it with two vet squads in chimeras with the vendetta and russ/artillery support?

Its not a bad idea to have a unit holding a home objective, its just since its a smaller blob with rather weaker fire power flyers could pick them off. If you went all mech turn 1 move cruising/flat out to get as close as possible. Also at 150 pts i would think that you wouldnt really see any of those power lists anyways.

Also I'm not a big fan of the Vanquisher. You're regular Battle cannon can pop tanks pretty well. the Vanquisher is just too specialized.

I liked them at first but the last few games I played they didn't hold up as well. I'm still learning guard so most of it is pretty new to me . Would I just take the standard Russ with a bolter or do I slap on the lascannon?

Just keep the heavy bolter. If you fire the battle cannon, everything else on there counts as snap firing. At 150 pts, it's a bargain in my opinion. The other three variants I'd say are useful are the LR Demolisher with no upgrades, the LR Punisher with HBs all around, and the LR Executioner with PCs on the sides and a LC on the front..

In a 1500pt mech list i ran:

CCS with x4 plasma guns and plasma pistol in chimera

x2 vet squads with x3 melta each in a chimera

x2 vet squads with x3 plasma each in a chimera

x2 vendettas

LRBT

Leman russ vanquisher with plasma sponsons, lascannon hull, and pask.

If you wanted you could swap the vanquisher for another varient like another LRBT and drop the plasma pistol to get marbo. Or you could use cheaper artillery like 2 bassilisk and possibly throw a vet squad in the vendettas.
