On moon miranda.

Finally I've almost got all the models for my armored battlegroup, here's what I'm thinking:

HQ

Company Command Tank, Leman Russ Vanquisher, coaxial heavy stubber, hull lascannon, sponson multi-meltas, Beast Slayer shells

Company Command Tank, Leman Russ Vanquisher, coaxial heavy stubber, hull lascannon, sponson multi-meltas, Beast Slayer shells

Elites:

Commissar Tank, Leman Russ Eradicator, 3x Heavy Bolter

Commissar Tank, Leman Russ Eradicator, 3x Heavy Bolter

Troops:

Leman Russ Exterminator, Hull Lascannon, Sponson Heavy Bolters

Leman Russ Exterminator, Hull Lascannon, Sponson Heavy Bolters

Leman Russ Exterminator, Hull Lascannon, Sponson Heavy Bolters

Leman Russ Exterminator, Hull Lascannon, Sponson Heavy Bolters

Leman Russ Punisher, 3x Heavy Bolters, Heavy Stubber

Fortifications:

Aegis Defense Line

9 Leman Russ tanks, no scoring troops, no FA or HS for the relevant missions that make those slots scoring

So basically we've got a core of 4 exterminators that can threaten just about anything (however meekly) and are effective against light'/medium armor and infantry units in general. A couple eradicators for engaging dug in infantry (goodbye Fire Warriors!) and pie-plate duty (even if they aren't AP3 they still wound marines on 2's), and a Punisher to just dump wounds on something to finish it off (especially something like an MC that gets close with a wound or two left), and everything topped off with two kitted LR Vanquishers to engage heavy armor and toss out ID inflicting Plasma Cannon-esque shells. To provide some protection against DS'ing drop pods and the flurry of lances from the new Eldar, they can be parked behind the aegis line.

So basically this list has to rely on scouring people off objectives and playing for the secondaries, but should be silly.

thoughts?

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

why not move 3 of them to heavys just to give you scoring if playing BGNT?

Because the heavy support options of ABG aren't leman russ tanks.

I'd drop the sponson multimeltas on the Vanquishers as they already have sufficient AT imo and multimeltas have a dangerously short range

The MM sponsons were largely because I had points left and for "oh gak AV13 dread podded in right next to me", any thoughts on what to do with the points?

As for the Eradicators, under previous circumstances I'd agree, and I'd never try them in a normal IG list, however with the changes to Lumbering Behemoth/Heavy making additional weapons pointless and the proliferation of Tau, Eldar, IG and Daemon armies of late (at least in my metagame, SM armies are rarer than previously and most of them are variants like Deathwing that don't really care about AP3) the S6 AP4 ignoring cover is much more useful than it had been previously especially in conjunction with the heavy bolters since Ordnance bearing tanks can't really make good use of them. Also useful since Hellhounds are so expensive and so easy to destroy in 6E. What would you replace them with?

The punisher is just bad. Consider replacing with demolisher.

Why are eradicators terrible? have you ever used them? yes they have some armies where they really dont do anything to marines but if your opponent has scouts in cover holding an objective have fun trying to kick them off with this list not having eradicators. Its also really funny when your playing someone who thinks they are safe turn one because of night fight and hifding behind a defense line, then all of a sudden your eradicator starts taking chunks out of their army.

They're terrible in ABG because Leman Russ tanks with Infernus Shells are the same but retain the Str 8 AP3 shell as well.

This. The only advantage the Eradicator has is that it can fire the HBs at full BS since the main gun isn't ordnance, but against the things you really want cover-ignoring weapons for those HBs probably aren't doing all that much.

Other suggestions:

1) Exterminator -> Demolisher/Thunderer/Executioner. ACs don't threaten much. AP 2 shooting does, especially when you have the dual CCS Vanquishers to hurt tanks at range and the commissar tanks for killing infantry hordes.

2) LR Punisher -> Vulture gunship with punisher cannons. Cheaper, better firepower, and more durable against most threats.

3) Take Avengers with hellfury missiles. Volume of fire for hordes, AP 2/3 for elites, and still decent against flyers.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

These are great also. For point 1 I use Thunderers for cheapness, because the points saved can be combined with the MM sponsons to add extra things, like scoring infantry or whatever.
