Hey all, I've been trying to gather some interest in WM/H at one of the LGSes.

Would anyone have any general advice for demoing and possibly running events in the future?

The best advice I can think of is that you learn the rules to a high level of proficiency. That and use well painted models.

Good luck with your endevour.

Also try to pick fun casters/armies if you go beyond battle box, anything that slams or has critical pitch is a good bet

1st - Use battle boxes.
2nd - Use only painted models.
3rd - Abuse warjack power attacks at every opportunity.
4th - Profit...

Good luck!

Don't run through an entire game and don't try to assassinate on turn two or whatever.

Go first. Talk through your turn. Memorize the stats for the two factions you will be demoing.
Hopefully they will get what you're doing and try to do the same.

Only do warmachine vs. warmachine or hordes vs. hordes.
This makes it easier for them to pick up the focus or fury mechanic.

Leave an opening for a caster kill. Maybe you edge out line of sight from behind a 'jack
and all it will take is a pop and drop. Maybe you play too aggressively and leave yourself
exposed after trashing one of his light 'jacks/'beasts. Burn all your focus/fury, or leave
one just so you can demonstrate overboosting/damage transfers.

Thank you all for the great advice.

I have a very good handle on the rules. Though, I have been debating picking up a second warpack as my primary army is a hordes one.

So, as even in a tourney I tend to tell what I'm doing through my turn, I should be pretty good to go then?

I don't think I would open up an assassination attempt on purpose. It feels like giving the guy a false expectation of the game.

Nothing wrong with playing sub-optimally, but I'd honestly try to show the other guy how you're supposed to do it. I wouldn't want to teach a new player bad habits.

Communication is definitely the key, since most people at a demo game have never played before make sure you're really descriptive about what you're doing and why (relating the tabletop rules to what's "really happening" in the battle helps people as well).

Like watching other people play video games (badly) while blathering about nothing in particular? Check out my Youtube channel: joemamaUSA!
