Hello all. I'm playing this weekend coming up and just found out that my cron opponent will be fielding his new tomb stalker. The stats on this thing are scary. How can I counter it using C:SM units? I have tanks, dreads, speeders, tons of troops.... Any help would be appreciated.

on the forum. Obviously

Powerfists. It doesn't have a DCCW, so you will get your saves against it.

When it comes down to it, it's just an AV13 walker. Do what you normally do against AV13.

I assume you are talking about the Canoptek Tomb Stalker?

Your best bet is killing it with AP 1-3 weapons at a distance. It's T7 with a 3+ save, so volume of fire isn't very effective against it. It doesn't have an Invul though, so dropping AP 1-3 weapons will hurt it.

Chances are it will outflank, so keep that in mind. It's very quick, and will munch through most units with Rampage and 4A base. It's also one of the few units with I4 that Necrons can bring.

So, shoot it. with AP 1-3 Weapons.

Ok that's good to know. He told me it had a 3+ invulnerable save. Can anyone confirm or deny this? If it's just a 3+ armor save it should be easy enough to beat down.

Tomb stalker is scarier looking then it is in reality. Its pretty awesome looking but its really a points dump.

Its really expensive. Fairly tough but i dont think its 3+ is invulnerable. i only ran the one i had once due to its points cost being close to two monoliths in the last codex.

It does not have an invulnerable save of any kind. Make sure to ask him to see the rules if he tries to pull that.

Make sure he is also using the current rules, found in IA12.

Just stay out of close combat with it. only things with a high invul save can really stand up to it in cc.

I actually find that volume of fire can be quite effective against T6/7 models with 3+ saves-- my Dreadnoughts, Quad-Guns, Stormtalons, etc. have proved highly effective against Tyranid monstrous creatures before. 3+ save Monstrous Creatures are actually rather weak defensively IMO, as they are vulnerable to both torrents of mid-high strength firepower and single shots from heavier weapons. Overall, an army with enough long range anti-tank firepower should be able to handle a Tomb Stalker without too much trouble-- I don't think you should have to alter your composition any to deal with it.

All Tyranid MCs are T6 though, the T7 bump is pretty huge.

A good example is it takes 10 autocannon shots on average to cause an unsaved wound to a Tomb Stalker, compared to 6 for a T6 TMC.

Oh sorry, I thought you were talking about the Triarch Stalker.

Yeah, you need to shoot it alot with high strength low ap weapons. Missile launchers may help here, as it wounds it on a 3+ and ignores it's save.

Basic missile launchers do the job fine, typhoon land speeders are ideal in that case as they can position themselves in range quickly while staying out of its threat-range. Otherwise the good ole' hammer termies will punch through it without any difficulties.

2 things to watch for:

-he could try to deep strike it close to your line in cover, which will drastically reduce your chance to shoot at it before it reaches you

-it moves relatively fast so you're gonna have to try and catch it before it catches you.

Not sure how good your group is on allies, but you could take BA allies, with a BA libby, then take sanguine sword/blood lance, hit it once or twice with the lance, then when it inevitibly charges (or you charge), hit it with 4 s10 ap3 force attacks. take your psychic test and zot the bugger.

Thanks for the help. I was thinking of fielding 3 speeders in my list this weekend.

I'd have to proxy the BA stuff but I do have a codex and the guy is a very laid back player. I know he won't have a problem with it.

I spoke with him and he said he was thinking it had the phase shifter and not the phase tunneling. He said it himself that it doesn't have the 3+ invulnerable. It's not near as bad now that its just the 3+ armor save. Thanks all for the comments.

Force weapon could make that thing go to sleep. Sorcerer with force anything should be fine in CC. otherwise range it down. Bolters can still hurt it on a 6. Dont know how many havoks you run but they could make it go to sleep no problem. Single unit of thousand sons would be a big tarpit to that thing plus the sorcerer it comes with could kersquish it with his force weapon.
