So I'm starting at page 111 in the BRB now trying to become enlightened. Maybe you can help!

If you take a Special Character as the HQ for an Allied Detachment, and he has a set Warlord Trait, can he benefit from said Trait without being your Warlord? My instinct is no, RAI is possibly a no as well, but RAW it might be allowed. Nothing in the rules seems to dictate that you can't benefit from a trait if you aren't a warlord. Just that if you are a warlord you get a trait.

So since the trait is hard coded into the rules for a special character, it seems you'd be able to benefit from those abilities.

Opinions? I've tried searching for other posts on this but the search feature for this website isn't picking anything up (searched for "allied warlord trait" and similar combinations of phrase) so apologies if it has actually been asked before. Kind of surprised it wasn't, but then maybe I'm just the only one with doubts.

I believe this one was answered in the main rulebook FAQ.

defeat. It would seem that stupidity is as eternal as war.'

In order to benefit from a Warlord Trait, the model in question must be the Warlord. Since allied HQ can never be the Warlord, they never benefit from their persona Warlord Trait.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Ack, you are right. I'm blind. I somehow missed this from the BRB FAQ even though its in bright pink:

Q: If a model is listed as possessing a specific Warlord Trait in his
Bestiary / Army List entries, do the effects of that Warlord Trait
apply if the model is not nominated as your Warlord? (p111)

A: No.

Very good to know. Thanks!
