hi Dakkanauts

Does anyone have suggestions on suitable alternatives to the skyshield or some funky ideas for conversion?

It'll have to fit 6 x heavy mortars/thudd guns on it though so size is important and a little height too.

if a dolphin will jump out of water for fish, just imagine what it would do for chips?

The problem I see with radically changing the design of a skyshield is keeping the original idea of it. Its easy to make something approximately the same size, or make something that looks like some sort of landing pad, but difficult to keep both aspects.
How about a treehouse? Something similar to in Star Wars VI. Or the top of an old junkyard, so the models are resting on crushed cars.

I think the rule with these things is that as long as you keep the same rough dimensions as the original model you should be able to field it (unless your opponent is up themself). Try searching the Dakka Gallery, perhaps things like Skyshield conversion or Skyshield Scratch build on google?

Really a raised hill with a landing pad spray painted on the ground would be acceptable. However in non friendly games you'd really have to check with whoever's running the event to see if your piece is legal (ie not allowing advantages).
