For starters I was looking at spending 50 dollars starting off. I found the MKII box set comes with 3 warjacks and pKreoss and i was going to grab the box set of choir and a vassle blister. That was going to be my starting army for a bit.

I apologize for not setting up points as the book is not really stating how to add the points. Primer mkII is what i should be looking at right?

Prime mkii is the rulebook you want. Personally, I would split the two-player starter if you can (don't like cinerators, but like the 2nd heavy). Also, you don't have to have the army book, as all the stat cards come with the models. That said, for 15 points from the 1 player battlebox adding choir+vassal is pretty solid.

Here's how that would look

pKreoss+5
Crusader-6
Repenter-4
Revenger-6
Min Choir-2
Vassal-2

You add the points your warcaster has (warjack points) to the allowable point total (15+5 in this case). These points can only be spent on warjacks in your warcaster's battlegroup however.

Hope that helps, and good luck burning some heretics

the 2 player starter set comes with a mini rulebook IIRC, just the rulebook without the fluff, you also get a squad of "okay" heavy infantry for minimal extra cost.

the codex isn't required but is nice to figure out what you want, I would suggest the faction deck as its cheaper, lets you do stand-ins more easily, and has all the same info (minus fluff)

Each unit will come with the card for the unit/model in question. That will have all the rules you need to play with it, besides the main rulebook.

Warjack points are basically a built in discount. If a Warcaster has 5 jack points you can basically subtract 5 points from the point total of however many points you spent on jacks(that are in the battlegroup, non-battlegroup jacks can't use warjack points)

Your choice of box set plus choir and vassal is a solid starting point. Although the Revenger isn't the best warjack, protectorate only has a couple casters where Arc nodes are useful and pKreoss isn't one of them.

One nitpick I feel I should point out. The faction deck does NOT contain all the models the faction book does. The deck does not include models released in mkii. Off the top of my head, the Templar, errant officer/ standard(?), vindictus, and cinerators and mechaniks were introduced in the faction book

WJ: Repenter-4

Solos: Vassal Mechanik-1

Personally I would dump the Repenter and knights exemplar, as well as the mechanik to put a reckoner and vassal in

Personally I wouldn't buy the starter set as the revenger and the repenter aren't very useful . I would get the crusader and kreoss though. And get the exemplar errants and the bastions as your 1st units. I made the mistake of buying the cinerators because they had better armor but they ended up being a far worse unit.

First units after Choir. If you have two points, and have a jack, you should always be taking the Choir.

I'll disagree with you on the Revenger and Repenter. The Revenger is certainly more borderline, but he's great on Sev and Kreoss3 (Yes, Sev loves his character Revenger more, but for the starter box price, it's a great way to start with him), but the Repenter is a great 4pt jack, and is easy to sneak into a bunch of lists.
