If a model with a drone controller is firing (using a target lock) at a squad outside of his weapon's normal range, can he still expend a markerlight token to increase his ballistic skill thus increasing the ballistic skill of drones in the squad?

Tricky question. Models that fire at the Pinpoint target recieve the BS increase, and the increase lasts for the duration of the shooting attack. The question is if this increase is before you apply the bonus from the Drone Controller.

I'd say no but have a hard time arguing it.

He certainly can't choose to shoot at a squad he can't reach with his weapons though, so I guess the exact scenario in the OP is a definite no.

Say your drone controller has a BS3, therefore gives your drones the same. Expending the markelight counter increases every one in the unit to shoot at +1 bs.

So whether or not the crisis suit is in range is irrelevant. Everything in the unit is shooting at bs4 at the marked target.

Am I understanding your question right?.

What you can't do is have target "A"and "B"

"A" has markerlight hits and "B" does not. The Crisis suit can not increase it's BS to 5 and shoot at "A" while the drones shoot at "B" with increased BS. The Drones would use bs3 from the drone controller

Your basic Arachnid warrior isn't too smart, but you can blow off a limb, and it's still 86 percent combat effective. Here's a tip: Aim for the nerve stem, and put it down for good.

Love the speeling edit.

The way it reads to me, though I would prefer the other way, the BS modifier is a set value so it sets it after the +1 for a marker light. It also doesn't currently help the drones in shooting at fliers.

All the worlds a joke and the people merely punchlines

Even if it is set after, it would still be BS4 for the drones. The drones are using the BS of the suit, which would be increased to 4. The modification of the drone's BS would be overridden by the still higher BS from the suit.

Target lock simply states that the user may fire at a different target than the squad. The shooting still occurs simultaneously. It isn't split-fire. That way the bonus is there while the drone is firing as well. Also the bonus is phrased that it boosts that stat, not a psuedo-boost for the effects of that one attack. Also remember that Pinpoint only applies to the people in a squad firing at that specific target.

The question was whether or not the user could target a squad outside of the range of his weapons and still get the increase to ballistic skill so he can pass that onto the drones.

He can indeed do so; while his shooting attack automatically misses, nothing states they also lose the ML "token" being used to increase BS
