After thumbing threw a copy of the new Allied D-Day book, I have decided I want to build an American army to go with my Germans. Initially I was looking at the Cav Recon out of Devil's Charge as well as Overlord. But I noticed there is an Armored Recon company as well. I was wondering if anybody has had any experience running the Armored Recon out of Turning Tide? Also what are the benefits of taking light tanks over medium tanks in a recon company.

I haven't had any experience running a recon company but I have regularly included a cav recon platoon in almost all of my lists the past 4 months of wargaming! They are an invaluable part of the American arsenal in my opinion. I played two big games this weekend and recon was the reason I won them both!
The advantage of taking light tanks over medium in this sort of list is their speed. Greyhounds and Stuarts, while having mostly the same weaponry, compliment eachother perfectly. Stuarts hit hard when used properly! Reveal gtg with your recon, then blast them with your artillery and sweep them aside with your Stuarts whilst pushing on towards the objective 16" at a time... Or 32" if you are feeling brave enough to move at the double!

Awesome, thanks for the advice. I can't agree more with you about having recon in a list. One of my recent games, I was up against a fortified company with my panzer company. Recon lifting gtg was what allowed me to break his company for the win.

I think I will start a Armored Recon company for my american. Just have to buy Overlord and get my Germans finished first.

No problemo! Make sure you get Plastic Soldier Stuarts and Forged in Battle Greyhounds. Saves you a lot of money!
