So I was daydreaming at work today about Eternal Crusade, when a coworker asked me what I was thinking about. I confessed and eventually, after we had moved off the topic, he suggested quite possibly the best MMORPG idea I've ever heard.
Lego Universe, where ANYTHING is possible because Lego owns rights to just about EVERYTHING.
Let me explain to you how awesome his idea is:
Lego owns the rights to both DC / Marvel universes, Star Wars, The Hobbit, Lord of The Rings, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, Prince of Persia, The Last Airbender, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Cars, in addition to its own creations of ninja's, werewolves, vampires, deep sea explorers, medieval castles, city and major feats of architecture, barbie villages, pirates, Indians, space explorers, miners, space miners, Chinese transformer / piloted craft... you get the idea... it's a ton of stuff.
Anyway, the plot of this gigantic universe of neat and orderly themes has been torn asunder, the world of Lego has quite literally been blown to it's atomic bricks by a supernatural force and now the great leaders of each "realm" are trying desperately to rebuild things the way they were. As a player, your class is which Leader you choose to help. If you choose the Jedi, your building options are strictly limited to the Star Wars galaxy. If it's Gandalf, its from Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. However, you are not limited to which leader you serve and may choose to serve multiple Leaders at a time, giving you the option of mixing different construction abilities from different realms. You are limited to how many Leaders you can serve. Some in fact, such as Darth Vader and the Empire, will only allow you to use their models.
The objective of the game is to rebuild the Universe, but cataclysmic events will prevent players from achieving anything but a collation victory (one in which there is victory for every realm). This is made difficult because some players will likely compete with each other for resources and pride, but when co-operation and harmony is achieved, the limit of what can be done is only determined by a player's imagination.
