Hi here's my idea for an infantry only Blood angels list:
125 - Librarian (Jump Pack)
240 - Assault Squad (2x Meltaguns, Thunder Hammer)
075 - Sanguinary Priest (Jump Pack)
240 - Assault Squad (2x Meltaguns, Thunder Hammer)
075 - Sanguinary Priest (Jump Pack)
240 - Assault Squad (2x Meltaguns, Thunder Hammer)
995 - Total
Sooo...... What do you think?
Thunder Hammers just look awesome am I right in saying their only downfall is in a challenge? If I decline a challenge what happens? Does he "live to fight another day"?
How well would this come up against tanks/heavy armour do you think?

I think you would have a huge problem against fliers. I know you have x6 meltaguns, but they have a limited range and getting 3 HPs down on most fliers would be very tough considering you can only hit on 6's.
I love the simple great idea of space marines = win. Feel no pain + furious charge + bodies + power armor = insurmountable force.
You might also run into problems with your guys getting overwatched to death.
Having only three squads total is a weakness IMO. It allows them to get locked into static positions from blob squads. While the enemy has 5+ units to operate. This might cause problems with objectives, but I'm not 100% sure.

Thanks for that - although the 10 man squads could be combat squadded, the libby and priests joining the ones without the sergeants....
Would people have fliers at 1000 points and a lot of troops? orks maybe?
What about tanks and such?

Well, I bet most CSM players would take A Heldrake.
The Imperial Guard would probably take some Valkyries or vendettas at least at 1000 points.
It might not be the answer with your gaming group. But I bet you'll be fine against all normal tanks with just your jump pack + 6 meltaguns. the extra 3 thunder hammers is a little overkill. The hammers don't help at all against the random flier or two you might run into. Automatically Appended Next Post: They're amazing, but you should maybe but it down to 1-2 hammers at most. It is only 1000 points and you have a lot of meltaguns.

Ok - so this is a viable army list (except maybe against fliers)? What about challenges when assaulting, I know thunder hammers aren't the greatest for that, is there a way around it? Meltabombs would be good as well but I cant see how to get them without giving up the thunder hammers!

Meph the only way around it is too have 2 models in a unit able to accept chalenges BUT you are risking losing your priest or Libby by doing that. If you decline a challenge the model you decide to decline with, anyone that is an independent character or a squad sergeant, would not be able to attack at all that turn. If I remember right the person being assaulted chooses if they want to challenge first, then its the person who assaulted. If a challenge is issued the person issuing chooses who they challeng with then the person accepting or declining chooses which of their models will be represented in the challenge.

Oh OK that makes sense. So if I placed my sarge and libby/priest at the back then they.... wouldn't..... be able to be attacked in the assault? (I'm cringing as I'm typing this ) - Thanks

No in assaults the person taking wounds chooses who they go to as long as they are in base contact or within 3(I think?) inches of another model so for close combat, model placement isn't as important as when getting shot at. The exception is challenges. When a challenge occurs only the 2 participants in the challenge wound each other until 1 dies. While they are going head to head the rest of the squad in that combat fight each other normally with no wounds passing on to the 2 in the challenge.
What I was trying to explain was that lets say you have a hammer on your sergeant and there is also a priest in the squad. Your opponent issues a challenge with his squad leader. You would be able to either accept or decline with either your sergeant or priest. If you accept, those 2 go off to the side fighting only each other. If you decline, whichever model you choose can not participate in this round of close combat. now examples!
If you accept with your Sergeant he would go head to head with your opponents challenger but would attack last due to Demon Hammer. If he declined the challenge he would not be able to fight anything this round but everyone else fights normally.
If you accept with your Priest you would risk losing the Priest but your Sergeant could attack last with the Demon Hammer agsinst anybody that didn't challenge. If you decline with your priest he would not be able to fight this round but everyone else including the challenger fights normally.

That makes so much sense, thanks very much. I love the thunder hammer models (and what they do), really glad that's how challenges work. - Thanks

It is the 3rd Millennium. For more than a hundred months Games Workshop has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Nottingham. It is the foremost of wargames by the will of the neckbeards, and master of a million tabletops by the might of their inexhaustible wallets. It is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with business strategies from the early Industrial Revolution Age. It is the Carrion Lord of the wargaming scene for whom a thousand veteran players are sacrificed every day, so that it may never truly die. Yet even in its deathless state, GW continues its eternal vigilance. Mighty battleforce starter-sets cross the online-store-infested miasma of the internet, the only route between distant countries, their way lit by a draconian retail trade-agreement, the legal manifestation of the GW's will. Vast armies of lawyers give battle in GW's name on uncounted websites. Greatest amongst its soldiers are the Guardians of the IP, the Legal Team, bio-engineered super-donkey-caves. Their comrades in arms are legion: the writing team and countless untested rulebooks, the ever vigilant redshirts, and the writers of White Dwarf, to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from other games, their own incompetence, Based Chinaman - and worse. To support Games Workshop in such times is to spend untold billions. It is to support the cruelest and most dickish company imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of sales discounts and Warhammer Fantasy Battle, for so much has been dropped, never to be re-published again. Forget the promise of cheaper digital content and caring about the fanbase, for in the GW HQ there is only profit-seeking, Space Marines and Sigmarines. There is no fun amongst the hobby shops, only an eternity of raging and spending, and the laughter of former employees who left GW to join better companies. |

I'll take my chances. BA do get to shoot, too. If I'm in HTH with daemons, I've probably lost anyway.
