I would ditch all the gun bunnies or the driller, once you get into a fight, you will be forced to choose which ones you want to be effective. blasters and gunners are basically useless outside of light infantry duty without their one focus point for boosting. You really want to keep a few focus on gorten for his upkeeps and spells, and he just doesnt have enough left over to run all those jacks. In fact, I rarely run him with more than 1 heavy. There are tons of options in a highborn list that will give you more mileage than them. Try harlan versh for instance - he can clear infantry just as well as them but he is a huge threat against enemies with upkeeps. Gorman di wolfe is another that I would not go without in this list. Sylys can help with your focus problems. Beware of reinholdt! Gorten's RAT is too low to make two shots with his double barrel so you will almost always be doing a combined shot but if you do that, then reinholdt's ability doesnt work as he is not allowed to make any additional attacks with it. An ogrun Bokur would also be a nice addition.

The Gunmages are more than enough to handle infantry threats. Just make sure you put the UA with them to make them more awesome.
As for Gorten, I'd say run him with 2 heavies: a Driller and a Basher. Basher is really efficient with his free Slam and he also clears out infantry with his grenades. Also, under Strength of Granite P+S 19 is good enough to bust up all but the heaviest of the heavies.
As for Thor, I recommend him to get a Blaster and he just hangs back and tunes up your heavies or his Gun Bunny.
See if you can work in the Piper of Ord as well. Everything else is solid.
Oh, and Forgeguard = Win!

At 35 points, sticking a blast/gunner with thor would be a total waste as you would get the same effect with it on Gorten and spending 1 focus every turn. I have had great fun (and won several games) running a basher under both gorten and thor, or running an avalancher under thor. I know the avalancher doesnt hit THAT hard, but, thor can boost the atk roll with jack marshal and then tune up all the damage rolls of the blast - he basically casts fire for effect on it. Also - Drive pronto allows you to A: Move every turn while still gaining the aiming bonus or B: Lets you (effectively) run every turn while still being able to shoot. Thor is so effective at running avalanchers that it is almost a shame not to take one under him - unless you stick a basher with him.
The problem with taking two heavies under gorten is, again, he cant run them effectively. Unless you only want to slam with the basher and make a couple attacks with the driller. Alternatively, run just one heavy and be able to run it hot and fully buffed every turn and still have focus left over to boost that double shot cannon of gorten's, or drop a rockwall to impede enemy movement/shield your forgeguard, or his no blast dmg/immune to knockdown aura. With access to more mercs than anyone, and the fact that a driller or a rockram with strength of granite makes them hit as hard as a colossal, you really dont need another heavy sucking on gorten's limited focus pool. Honestly, I would rather take another squad of forgeguard than a second heavy that you will struggle to get your mileage out of.
Merc solos that work well with Gorten:
Gorman
Sylys
Harlan Versh
Lady aiyana and master holt
rupert corvalo
Ogrun Bokur
I cant stress the bokur enough, that model has made it's points back in every game I have played it in which is every single one where I play my merc army. It hits really hard, it can have extremely high mat, it has a ton of health boxes, lots of armor, it slams, it reaches, it shields your caster, its just awesome.
I would drop the gunners and reinholdt, exchange the driller for a basher or rockram (I dig the rockram), exchange thor's basher for an avalancher if you gave gorten the basher (you want one of them to have a basher), and then pickup some of those solo mercs - Gorman, versh, the ogrun, and/or the piper would be my picks. If you can fit in another forgeguard unit then that would be great. If you really want one, I could see taking ONE blaster under gorten.

Thanks so much for the feedback. I dropped a few gun bunnies, but still have two under Gorten. Their just so good for 3 points in my opinion. I tossed one under the gun mages because of increasing their range by a few inches... Allows me to stand till gaining the +2 while ramping the dmg with the jack marshal. Let me know what you think of the revisions... Also added Gorman... He's awesome

You think the gunners good under him? Stick a driller under him and you have one of the most lethal melee jacks in the game and its only a 6 point model!!!! The thing hits like a collosal or harder when it gets DMG tune up from Thor but its 1/3 the points. I recall a game where I assaulted a discordia with a fully buffed rockram (tuned up + granite + landslide). Rolled high on the initial attacks and scrapped it without having to buy any extra.

Good point . I just like having the range for the landslide assisination. I'll give it a go with just running a driller under him. Where would you fill the extra points?

Maxing out the forgeguard would be a good option. Also adding Rupert corvalo to give those forgeguard tough and give you acccess to pathfinder is probably the next best option. Forgeguard are a very solid unit and the piper makes them more versatile and more durable. If you have a point left over, then upgrading the driller on gorten to a basher is a decent option. It wont have the sheer damage output of the driller but hitting with p+s 19 is usually adequate for jack smashing. Plus, you have the extra forgeguard to smash jacks as well. Gortens pretty nasty with a pair of bashers, landslide your opponent out of formation, use the bashers to slam stuff out of the way and open up assassination lanes OR slam through his screens and followup right into melee range of his caster. Plus, bashers clear light infantry really well.
