Hey,

I just wanted to take a break away from GW models and want to explore the different regions of space.. just something more familiar. I have seen some beautiful 30mm Batman models from Knight but they are a tad expensive + the overseas costs for someone in Canada. So i was wondering if there any NA producers of some nice miniatures, probably something like Star Wars i could make some dioramas with or some display models just to have. Also if there are some larger scale kit producers for vehicles or starships in the star wars universe anyone can suggest, again for dioramas/display or hanging from the ceiling.

In the meantime i found a BSG Viper kit at a hobby shop nearby that i will probably start with.

Funnily enough - Knight also made a Star Wars line. But I don't think it's in production anymore. So you'd have to track them down on Ebay and they'd be even pricier.

No one else makes/made Star Wars miniatures "proper" that I know of. There is the new X-wing game - but those are prepaints.

You could find some toys and repaint them maybe ...

West End Games did a large set of 25mm Star Wars figures, they are still fairly easy to find second hand after all these years. The Knight Miniatures were so expensive I was just couldn't believe it.

Revell make quite a few ships/vehicles from Starwars.
They are prepainted, push-fit and the detail is OK, depending on what you like doing they could easily have more detail added to them and painted better.

Everyone: No.

They were 15-20 a piece. And they're gorgeous. And they're licensed. I'd hardly call that "so expensive"

They worked out just a little more than that in the UK I think.

That surprises me. Isn't Knight a Spanish outfit? I thought y'all were usually able to euro stuff cheaper than us?

The old Wizards of the Coast SW minis were mostly soft plastic but the vehicles were harder and could probably be a cheap source of material to paint.

Wizards also did a small range of metal figures for their RPG but they were almost all generic (like a rodian smuggler) not unique film characters and they were mostly Episode 1 based.

Thanks for the replies guys, i posted the same thing on Warseer, a person mentioned Fine Molds for the Starwars vehicle side, i looked it up and fell in love. From what i know there a hobby shop near by that has Revell so ill take a look there.

And yeah scale shots would be helpful, im very indecisive with these sorta things haha.

Now, I can tell you that these are 28mm true-scale, so they will be smaller and better proportioned than the minis from GW and other ranges.

Another question, how do the 1/72 vs the 1/48 kits compare? I know the 1/48 kits are larger, but detail wise is one more superior to the other from Fine Molds?
