So, over the past couple of year's i've picked up a fair amount of space wolves,or certainly parts for them. I've wanted to do an army for a while but could never get a solid grasp on a design idiology i wanted. After listening to Prospero Burns i figured why not do pre-heresy wolves, i had a fair amount of spares from stock piling for my iron warriors.
So here we are, i've got 1 ten man unit, a rhino, a dreadnought and a predator to paint. After that this log will go back into hiatus until Forge world give the puppies some love, or i finish Project Zoica (which i my priority, but after a month of ocher i needed a break)
So here's the test mini. Please ignore the base, the lighting has killed all the detail.
Asides from the dread all the mini's are going to be like this. If you want high quality experiment painting check out my chaos force... this one is just a meat and potato force.

I like this! Nice and gritty, just how the Wolves of Fenris should be! Yeah you're right about the lighting, but as you said, these aren't meant to be top-class minis, so missing out on some of the detail isn't a biggie. Consider me sub'd

I am very excited to see this play out. The wolves were one of my finalists when I do pre heresy. It's going to be cool watching your take on them.

Thanks man, ye i'm going for atmosphere and light marking to get squad/company down but i'm trying to keep them very utilitarian in the war gear's scheme.

it may take a while... but i can't see myself quitting them any time soon.
Now for the update. I've built more troops and such, but i want to inject more personality into the force yet. For now a wolf priest i've had for years and a few tanks in various states of progress. I've made efforts to get the slight melt/fresh ice-snow mixture to show up but it's whiting out most of the time.
I'm happy with the wolf priest but ye... i do need to look into adding some more work on the eyes when i get a new fine detailing brush.

Now before i go on, about 18 months ago i started work on a mechanicus project. It's a slow burn thing, i doubt i'll hit 750 pts by 2015 tbh, but i tinker and add. I've decided to dust off a few models and update some photographs of them. I've also started a new model based on Sheep's log which has given me some with a knight design... though i plan to make it my own as work on the torso progresses.
Imagine time;

Right i could do with a few opinions on this guy. I'm currently putting him down to paint a few grade 2 skitarii, but i'm 90% done. Is there something 'm missing with this? i've spent that much time in the past 24 hrs staring at him i think i'm starting to see machine code....
Thoughts?

It looks great! I want one!
That being said, I think the shoulder mounted (flame weapon?) could use a little more tubing or wires connecting it to the machine's back. You might also try bending the existing tube/wire as it seems to look a little un-natural in the pictures.

Now for an update, i've had these about for a while and i've finally decided to paint them up. I'll be the first to admit it's not my finest work, but these aren't going to be my top quality troops/center piece units, they are just to bulk out any full scale armies i put together. Thoughts on the scheme/atmosphere is welcome however.
