Subject: Pointers for my Space Wolves vs Eldar/Tau allies?

Got a 2k game tomorrow, my Space Wolves vs Eldar with Tau (not sure which will be the primary and which the detachment).
I've only played against Necrons so far (which hasn't gone well) so looking for a few pointers, what to take, what to focus fire on etc?
My SWs are lacking fast attack to be honest and could really use more transport (gonna drop £100 on these next month) but, we have terminators, wolf guard, grey hunters, blood claws, LRC, logan grimnar, wolf priest, rune priest, wolf lord, dread, lone wolf, sniper scouts, long fangs... I could role a small Imperial Fist detachment if I need more feet on the ground. Oh there's a Rhino too.

That´s going to be an uphill battle... Eldar & Tau are very good when it comes down to killing SM of every flavour. If you only have 1 Rhino i wouldn´t field it, it would be the prime target for all anti tank weapons and a free firstblood for your opponent.
Btw can you proxy? I got the feeling that lots of drop pods always help to close the distance and a whirlwind or two might help against cover-hugging low T models.

Without transports, you are rather screwed.
If you had drop pods, the balance would shift. I'd say your best bet would be taking a couple JoTWW in drop pods if you can Proxy.
Without Transports, you're really going to have a bad tine.

I can proxy yes, I've done so before when playing against the same friend.
Am I right thinking a CD has about the same footprint as a drop?
I thought I'd be up against necrons again, but said friend has jumped on the resent elder and tau bandwagons lol.
I'm at a disadvantage right away in any case, he's been playing 15 years whereas this will be only my 4th game hehe

How about this
Logan
Rune priest w/ LL + JOTWW
15 blood claws - ccw+bolt pistol
10 grey hunters in drop pod - p'fist, plasma pistol, 2x plasma gun, MOTW and wolf standard
5 terminators in drop pod - 2 hammer+shield, assault cannon chain fist, dual wolf claw, p'sword and storm bolter one with melta bombs
5 terminators - cyclone missile, 3 p'fist 1 chain fist 1 wolf claw and storm bolters
Land raider crusader with multi melta
Long fangs - 2 lascannon 1 missile 1 plasma cannon leader with pistol and ccw
Long fangs in drop pod - 2 heavy bolter 1 multi melta leader with melta and melta bombs
Might have missed a couple of options but I'm coming up with 2k
15 claws and rune in LRC, Logan with the cyclone missile terminator squad
Drop hunters in
Drop the second long fangs in and try to get the melta off
Drop the terminator squad in with hammers near something nasty
Lascannon long fangs at the back

You could try proxying the Rhino as a whirlwind. gives your army a bit of mid range firepower.
Logan with Longfangs and a wolf guard in a drop pod. Relentless from Logan lets them disembark and fire at full balistics rather than snapshots from heavy weapons, add 3++ SS to wolf guard for survivability.
JTWW + drop pod vs Tau gunline is gold. I have taken out a riptide 1st turn with this combo. Just watch out for interceptors.
Wolf priest and Bloodclaws in crusader would be something to try too.
You can infiltrate then scout move with the snipers, get them into a good spot.
just a few ideas to help you out

I thought I could only have one unit (plus attached independent) in a drop? I.e , only Logan with either fangs OR guard not both ?

Wolf guard pack leaders rule. each wolf guard has the option to split off and join a unit of grey hunters, claws, scouts or fangs. only 1 per pack though.
It lets you put a 3++ infront of your hunters, or a cyclone in your longfangs

OK so, I did get my ass kicked in the end BUT that game did tell me a lot about how I have been playing me SWs wrong, so not all bad. Got off to a good start though it just went very wrong about turn 3 lol

Well long and short of the battle was first round my (proxy) drop pod assault saw 2 pods land right where I wanted them occupying some of his stuff and my lascannon long fangs took out a couple of vehicles by end of turn 2, but going on from there I kind of lost a handle on what to attack first and it all fell apart lol.
I'm being far to cautious and worrying to much about drawing fire, I need to start getting my units up close much sooner. IE, Once the blood claws actually disembarked and assaulted they really did well, I should have got them into play way sooner.
LRC needs to be throttled over the board asap to drop unit then drive off making use of the melta, I've been protecting it to much.
Need to drop the plasma from long fangs and run 3las 2rocket, then maybe a second long fang squad with either 3heavy bolter 2plasma or the other way round.
As with those blood claws, my rune priest needs to get involved way sooner.
Main thing is that I need to stop being so coy with them and get things locked in assault faster
Next purchases will need to be 2-3 drop pods and a decent fast attack option or two

With Drop Pods you definitely need to be aggressive. AV 14 can take care of itself.
You took less troops than I tend to like with Drop Pods, but really 4 units should have been plenty. Ignoring the 'problems' I personally see in the list itself... What did your opponent bring? If you remember that is.
Getting your TDA and Blood Claws stuck in as fast as possible (TDA vs Eldar or Tau, BC vs Tau or Eldar; in order of preference) could definitely see them laying down some pain. Just have to worry about Supporting Fire and that first turn really.

I forget exactly what he had, there was a riptide, wave serpents and a couple others, fire warriors... The particulars elude me now.
To be fair though I'm only 4 games in still getting to grips with it, we would have been playing lower points while I am learning the ropes but that was my last game with him before I move away so thought we might has well go higher. Was gonna be 2.5k.

Intresting reading My spacewolves fair well using droppods and i currently run 3 one with a Lone wolf and his two wolves as a distraction and to take out the enemys anti air assett followed in the next wave by a dredd with a melta for anti armour hunting and the either swiftclaws lead by a runepriest with living lightning and JOTWW for offensive punch normally with runic armour to take the hits or grey hunters armed with two melta guns to take out armour the key is to be aggressive my long fangs move up in razorbacks to cover with bikers or speeders in support of the drop pod beach head
My primary opponent is my friends eldar army which i have played against a fair bit and have found that being aggressive is the best defence against the new heavy hitters the eldar have

I don't think lone wolves or fenrisian wolves/thunderwolves are allowed in pods.
Main thing is that I need to stop being so coy with them and get things locked in assault faster

Actually, fenrisian wolves taken as wargear can go in transports. They take up two spaces each, but since you're dedicating a pod to a lone wolf, that doesn't really matter.

lone wolves can't have drop pods as dedicated transports, or any transport as dedicated.
If you could chuck any unit in someone elses dedicated transport i would be throwing Bjorn in the enemies face turn 1
I see the bit where it says wolves as wargear are allowed in transports.

As an eldar player, all our new toys are allowing us to shoot very well but they are quite vulnerable to CC particularly our vehicles, and can suffer from low model count.
Tarpit the Knights and riptides, wave serpents are a very expensive block of wreckage after any CC "NO SHIELDS FOR YOU", watch for back line fire dragons or wraith guard they could be very costly.
I have mixed thoughts on the land raider though seems like a big fat lance target for, well my lances.

The LRC held up pretty well, the biggest flaws with it being caused entirely by my own hand.
Obviously the LRC was there purely for the purpose of delivering those 15blood claws and their potential 60 attacks, which it did, I just should have got it there sooner then sent the tank to try and get its own weapons off at a target or two before getting wrecked.
