Simply amazing model.
Everything about it works well and just looks right (and pretty damn life like)

The only issue i have is tiny, and thats just that the base blends into the dragon quite a bit.

For a commission, it's good. It fits in with the hyper-colorized style that you see in Wappellious's work, or the art of Ron Spencer. There's always a huge market for that, so I'm sure your client was very satisfied with it. It's very pretty.

As a side note, there are those on the community who feel that it's good form to be clear up front when something is a commission. This isn't an attack or anything, and it's hardly a forum rule. When I see a really impressive model in this subforum, only to scroll down to the bottom of the post only to see a banner or a link to the user's commission painting service, it feels a little like I've been had, as though I was suckered in thinking I was going to see a Little League exhibition, only to see Nolan Ryan take the mound and start striking out little kids.

Most of the commission painters who use the P&M Showcase as a free advertising platform make a point of mentioning it at the top of the message. (The best, in my opinion, is to add [Commission] into the title of the thread.) Many, probably even most, people don't care at all, but there are a few who think that identifying the work as professionally done up front comes off as more honest than waiting until the end.

In any event, it's a very pretty model, I hope you made lots and lots of money off of it, and I hope your business enjoys great success in the future!

Of course can shot one photo on work bench or so, but it will break the mood.
Nowadays a lot of my paint jobs holded by collectors from different countries and I already participated offline Winter Aangel competition in Moscow, so a lot of people see my works in real. So now there is no reason for me to take care of proof if someone have any doubts.

Another point of view - Look at the First page of Top Artists on CMON.
A lot of works painted much better than this Dragon.

Stunning, would you/have you ever done a tutorial on some of the techniques you use? I am at a loss as to how you can make something look so amazing.

Here is repost of my answer from CMON forum, maybe You find something useful in it.

It`s Black Dragon , so I want to make it as dark as I can.
I have searched through some sites and found that it is looks like Black Skull Dragon (use google translater) - http://www.drago.su/dragons/Colored-Dragons/black-dragon/
First I wanted to use only classic black-white palette, but then realise that I need some green and yellow to show its insideous and guileful nature.
Then was a thought that I can use yellow everywhere on highlights so I masked yellow in yellow "illumination" ; dark green color is very natural looking color for dragons, so its okay too.

Some people comments (on other forums) that they want to see glowing eyes. I don`t think that glowing eyes suits real predator, as they can alert its prey from a mile away. And I don`t care about witch king, I was interested only in dragon.

The wings are really nice, and the whole piece is far, far better than I could manage. My only crit is that it's so dark the rider doesn't really stand out at all, and neither does the dragon's head. It's kind of like the piece as a whole is highly contrasted light-dark, but there isn't much contrast between different parts of the model. I hope that makes sense...

I aprecciate your notice. Its good point.
But there is another point of view - when You look at real model of such size You focus your view on different parts, and its nice when every part well-maded and properly highlighted.
So You can enjoy it in parts and in whole view
And specially in case of big-sized creatures - they shaded by natural illumination a little, when You look at them in real (far more than 28mm singles, for example)
So this is a choice.

One day you will have to explain your technique?

Today there is one big article by me. Its about Obsidian Stonehorn and its in Portal 31 - http://www.wampforum.com/VB4/downloads.php?do=file&id=36

I can write another article, if some magazine (or something similiar) will ask for.
I want be sure that a lot of people read it, before I will spend several hours in battle with english language
And I don`t like WIPs or step by steps, because in my opinion - You dont need to copy, You need to understand essence through reflection (or You can call it meditation)

But I really cannot get your painting technique, it is not layers? it seems like small dots/lines?

First years I was charmed by blendings, smooth colors.. But since then I paint, paint, paint... paint thousand more times...
And at some point I just dont give a f*ck about blending and simple smooth transitions. Nothing special, You know..
And I start do something I call "texturing" , Its just come out in natural way. My hand start doing this by itself, when I start waving with brush at high speed.
(By the way, I`m often asked about do I use glass lenses or so. No, and there is a reason why.
Because I keep whole picture in head. And I dont need to focus my eyes everytime. Its kind of automatism)
Also there appears wish of something that I call "complex colors". like Ana works. Like violet shadow and yellow highlights or so.
So my technique just product of satiety.

Best,
Sergey.
